SEO & Content Specialist
Department - Marketing, Reports To The Managing Director
Location - Remote (must align with UK time)
Hours - Full-time, primarily available during UK business hours
About Launch Digital
Launch Digital is a digital marketing agency based in South Africa with a growing UK presence. We manage Google Ads, SEO, Meta Ads, websites, and landing pages for 60+ active clients across industries including dental, insurance, retail, automotive, and professional services.
We are a small, close-knit team of around 10 people. We value initiative, honesty, ownership, and creative problem-solving. We run a low-micromanagement culture — we trust our people to get the work done and do it well. If you need someone looking over your shoulder, this is not the place for you. If you thrive when given responsibility and the freedom to own your work, you will do well here.
Purpose of the Role
We are looking for an SEO & Content Specialist to own SEO delivery across our client portfolio and produce high-quality written content that supports our clients’ organic search strategies.
SEO is a core service that we sell, and this role exists to ensure we deliver it at a consistently high standard. You will be responsible for the technical execution, the content, and the results. You will work closely with our Head of Client Services & Projects, who manages the client relationships, and our developers, who handle website builds and technical changes.
This is a hands-on delivery role. You will not be managing people or sitting in meetings all day. You will be doing the work — running audits, researching keywords, optimising pages, writing articles, and tracking results. If you love the craft of SEO and take pride in writing content that actually ranks, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
SEO Strategy & Execution
- Own the SEO strategy and execution for multiple client accounts simultaneously
- Conduct monthly technical SEO audits, identify issues, and either fix them or brief the dev team to fix them
- Perform keyword research to inform content strategies, on-page optimisation, and campaign planning
- Execute on-page SEO optimisation — meta titles, meta descriptions, heading structures, internal linking, image alt text, schema markup
- Build and manage keyword rank tracking across all SEO clients
- Conduct competitor analysis to identify opportunities and inform strategy
- Develop and maintain backlink strategies where relevant
- Monitor Google algorithm updates and proactively adjust strategies where needed
- Work with WordPress (and occasionally other platforms) to implement on-page changes directly where appropriate
Content Creation
- Write SEO-optimised blog articles (with the use of AI) for multiple clients each month
- Research topics, develop outlines, and write final drafts independently from a brief
- Ensure all content is original, well-researched, properly structured for SEO, and written in a tone appropriate to each client’s brand
- Upload and format blog content in WordPress with correct on-page SEO (meta title, meta description, headings, alt text, internal links)
- Plan and manage a content calendar across SEO clients, staying ahead of deadlines
Google Business Profile & Local SEO
- Set up and optimise Google Business Profiles for clients where local SEO is part of the scope
- Manage local citations and directory listings
- Create and schedule Google Business Profile posts where applicable
Reporting & Communication
- Compile monthly SEO performance reports showing rankings, traffic, and key metrics
- Be able to explain what the numbers mean — not just pull data, but interpret it and recommend next steps
- Communicate progress, findings, and recommendations clearly to the Head of Client Services (who will present them to clients)
- Flag underperforming accounts or at-risk clients early with a recommended action plan
Collaboration
- Work with other Account Managers to understand client priorities and deadlines
- Brief web developers on technical SEO fixes with clear, actionable instructions
- Coordinate with the Google Ads team where SEO and paid search strategies overlap
- Contribute to website build projects by advising on site structure, URL hierarchy, and content architecture from an SEO perspective
Tools & Platforms
You will be expected to work with the following tools. You do not need experience with all of them on day one, but you should be comfortable learning new tools quickly.
- SE Ranking - Keyword tracking, technical site audits, competitor analysis
- Google Search Console - Indexing, crawl monitoring, search performance
- Google Analytics 4 - Traffic analysis, user behaviour, conversion tracking
- WordPress - Content publishing, on-page SEO implementation
- ClickUp - Task management, briefs, delivery tracking
- Google Workspace - Docs, Sheets, email, calendar
- Looker Studio - Client reporting dashboards
- Rank Math - WordPress SEO plugin
- SiteGuru - On-page SEO and content tool
Skills & ExperienceEssential
- 1–3 years of hands-on SEO experience (agency experience preferred but not required)
- Solid understanding of technical SEO, on-page optimisation, and content-driven SEO strategies
- Proven ability to write well — clear, engaging, grammatically correct content in UK English
- Experience with Google Search Console and Google Analytics
- Comfortable working in WordPress to publish and optimise content
- Ability to manage your own workload across multiple clients without constant supervision
- Strong attention to detail
Desirable
- Experience with SE Ranking, Ahrefs, SEMrush, or similar SEO platforms
- Experience with Screaming Frog or similar technical crawl tools
- Familiarity with schema markup and structured data
- Experience with local SEO and Google Business Profile optimisation
- Understanding of how SEO interacts with paid search, website UX, and conversion rate optimisation
- Experience working in or with digital marketing agencies
- Shopify SEO experience
Personal Attributes
- Self-starter — you take ownership of your work and don’t wait to be told what to do next
- Curious — you stay up to date with SEO trends, algorithm changes, and industry best practices because you’re genuinely interested
- Honest — if something isn’t working or you’re stuck, you say so. You don’t hide problems
- Quality-driven — you take pride in your work and don’t cut corners
- Organised — you can manage multiple clients and deadlines without things falling through the cracks
- Communicative — you keep your manager informed of progress, blockers, and results without being chased
Why Join Launch Digital
- You will own SEO as a service line — this is not a support role; it’s a delivery role with real responsibility
- Small team, big impact — your work directly affects client results and agency revenue
- Flexible, remote-first working environment with a team that trusts you to get the work done
- Room to grow — as the agency grows, so does the scope and remuneration of this role
- A team that values quality over quantity and people over process
How to Apply
Send your CV and a brief cover note to [email protected]. In your cover note, please include:
- A link to a website or page you’ve personally worked on from an SEO perspective, and a brief explanation of what you did and what results you achieved
- A sample of your writing — either a blog article you’ve written or a short piece written specifically for this application (topic of your choice, 300–500 words)
We are not interested in a generic cover letter. We want to see your work and hear you explain it in your own words.
