ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Portfolio Management
- Manage and maintain a portfolio of personal lines insurance clients.
- Process and negotiate annual policy renewals to ensure retention and adequate coverage.
- Monitor and follow up on unpaid premiums, liaising with clients, insurers, and internal stakeholders to resolve outstanding accounts.
- Process policy amendments, endorsements, additions, deletions, and cancellations accurately and within agreed service levels.
- Conduct market approaches and obtain competitive quotations from insurers to ensure clients receive the most suitable cover and pricing.
Underwriting and Technical Duties
- Analyse and assess insurance risks to ensure appropriate cover is provided.
- Review policy wordings, endorsements, and insurer terms and conditions.
- Prepare and present quotations, comparisons, and recommendations to clients and brokers.
- Ensure policies are issued correctly and comply with insurer underwriting guidelines.
- Identify gaps in cover and recommend appropriate risk management and insurance solutions.
Client Service
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, insurers, and business partners.
- Provide professional advice and support regarding commercial insurance products and coverage.
- Respond to client queries and requests within agreed turnaround times.
- Deliver exceptional service to improve client retention and satisfaction.
Insurer and Market Relationships
- Maintain strong working relationships with multiple insurers and underwriting managers.
- Negotiate terms, premiums, and coverage enhancements on behalf of clients.
- Stay informed of insurer product changes, underwriting appetite, and market developments.
Compliance and Administration
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with FAIS, FICA, POPIA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate client records and documentation on internal systems.
- Assist with audits, compliance reviews, and reporting requirements.
- Ensure all policy documentation is issued and filed accurately and timeously.
Business Development Support
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell and upsell insurance products within the existing client base.
- Support new business initiatives by assisting with quotations and market submissions.
- Contribute to portfolio growth and retention objectives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Class of business
- RE
- Insurance related qualification
- Candidate must have a min of 5 years experience as an underwriter in a broking environment
Knowledge and Experience
- Sound knowledge of personal lines insurance products.
- Knowledge of products and underwriting requirements across multiple insurers will be advantageous.
- Strong understanding of policy wordings, risk assessment, and underwriting principles.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
