Purpose of the position
To improve the quality of our products by analyzing, controlling, troubleshooting and improving the quality of brewing materials, the brewing process and finished product.
Analyze and improve customer satisfaction by conducting surveys and handling customer complaints.
Key Performance Areas
Quality Assurance:
Ensure consistent and accurate microbiological sampling and analysis.
- Ensure accurate microbiological techniques in compliance with Heineken laboratory standards.
- Maintain microbiological testing to conform to sampling plan.
- Ensure timely analysis and reporting to ensure there are no delays to production.
- Maintain laboratory information systems.
- Implementation of hygiene systems.
- Sampling and analyzing microbiological samples.
- Liaising with suppliers.
- Initiating and planning of purchasing goods and services.
- Ensure that the correct hygiene control measures are implemented and maintained.
- Ensure that analysis requests from external stakeholders are analyzed accurately and timeously and feedback is given.
- Troubleshooting and root cause identification.
- Calibration, maintenance, verification and use of Laboratory equipment.

Laboratory Equipment Maintenance:
Maintain the microbiological laboratory equipment to a professional standard.
- Maintain microbiological testing equipment and facilities to comply with Heineken standards.
- Ensure calibration schedules are kept to schedule.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory best practices.
- Ensure equipment for microbiological analysis is hygienically cleaned.
Staff Development:
Assist development of Brewing, Utilities and Packaging Staff with respect to microbiological control and basic hygiene.
- Monitor and communicate process outputs using visual management techniques.
- Coach staff in basic hygiene and food safety.
Safety, Health and Environment:
Ensure a safe working environment and practices within the different requirements.
- Ensure safe laboratory practices including safe chemical handling and storage.
- Ensure safe disposal of all microbiological waste.
- Analyze and trend microbiological results and initiate appropriate action.
- Identify and eliminate all unsafe, unhealthy and environmentally damaging conditions and work practices.
- Ensure compliance with ISO9001 standards.
- Promote safety awareness.
- Ensure the department operates within company SHE standards and OHS Act, through continued education and training and obtaining the co-operation and commitment of all staff to observe all safety rules, procedures and processes to drive zero accident mentality
Job Requirements
Education
National Diploma in Microbiology or any other related science.
Experience
At least 2 years’ experience in the brewing industry microbiology lab including operational roles
