Position: Operations Manager

Hotel: 3-Star, 50 Rooms – Ocean Breeze Hotel & Conference Centre
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on, results-driven Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of Ocean Breeze Hotel while supporting the commercial growth of the business. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth functioning of all departments, maintain exceptional service standards, enforce operational procedures, and identify opportunities to increase revenue across accommodation, conferencing, events, and restaurant operations.
In addition to operational leadership, this role requires a commercially minded individual with experience in sales administration, client relationship management, quotations, invoicing, and business development. The Operations Manager will work closely with management to convert enquiries into bookings, strengthen client relationships, and maximise occupancy and revenue.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, conference & events, and restaurant operations.
- Enforce SOP adherence, workplace professionalism, and service standards.
- Conduct regular performance reviews with department heads and staff.
- Ensure effective interdepartmental communication and teamwork.
- Develop and monitor KPIs for staff productivity and service quality.
- Handle guest feedback and service recovery professionally.
- Manage scheduling, rostering, and shift coverage.
- Oversee training and development programs for all departments.
- Maintain compliance with health & safety, fire, and municipal regulations.
- Assist with budget monitoring, cost control, and inventory checks.
- Ensure conference & event setups meet client expectations.
- Act as the GM’s right hand, stepping in to resolve operational challenges proactively.
- Respond to accommodation, conferencing, events, and group booking enquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Prepare quotations, proposals, and booking confirmations for corporate, conference, accommodation, and restaurant clients.
- Follow up on quotations and outstanding enquiries to maximise booking conversions.
- Assist in identifying new business opportunities and implementing sales initiatives to increase hotel occupancy and conference revenue.
- Build and maintain relationships with local and international businesses, corporate clients, tour operators and travel agents, guests, schools, sporting groups, and event organisers to generate repeat business.
- Work closely with the marketing team to support promotions, campaigns, and seasonal offers.
- Monitor enquiry conversion rates and provide recommendations to improve sales performance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management, Business Management, Tourism, Sales, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in hotel operations, hospitality management, or a comparable leadership role.
- Previous experience in hotel sales, conference and events coordination, reservations, or commercial operations would be highly advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience preparing quotations, proposals, invoices, and client correspondence.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships while converting enquiries into confirmed bookings.
- Experience managing operational budgets, departmental costs, and revenue performance.
- Familiarity with hospitality PMS and POS systems, including Semper, Nightsbridge, and Microsoft 365.
- Strong leadership, organisational, negotiation, and communication skills.
Performance Expectations
- Maintain guest satisfaction scores above 85%.
- Achieve agreed occupancy and revenue targets.
- Increase enquiry-to-booking conversion rates across accommodation, conferencing, and restaurant bookings.
- Ensure quotations are issued within 24 hours of enquiry.
- Maintain high levels of repeat corporate and conference business.
- Ensure all invoices and client documentation are accurate and processed within agreed timelines.
- Maintain SOP compliance above 90% during operational audits.
- Drive staff training, development, and departmental accountability.
- Improve operational efficiency while remaining within approved budgets.
Pay: R30 000,00 - R35 000,00 per month
