Full Job Description

The Desktop Support Technician’s role is to provide a first and single point of contact for end users to receive support and maintenance within the organization’s desktop computing environment. This position reports to the IT Supervisor and is based at our offices in Bryanston. The successful candidate is a motivated and detail-oriented individual who seeks to provide top-notch technical support and troubleshooting for our end-user desktop systems

Main responsibilities
Installation & Configuration: Set up, install, and configure desktop systems, including operating systems, software, and hardware. Handle moves and changes as requested by line managers.
User Assistance: Respond to support requests via phone, email, and ticketing systems. Provide guidance and basic training to users on system usage and best practices.
Technical Support: Provide timely desktop support for hardware, software, and network issues. Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to operating systems, applications, printers, and peripherals. Perform onsite diagnosis and resolution of complex desktop issues
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and updates to ensure system security and performance. This includes applying patches, updates, and antivirus solutions, and installing components such as CPUs, I/O and NIC cards, hard drives, RAM, memory chips, and CD-ROMs. Ensure all physical connections (e.g., RJ-45 Ethernet ports, RJ-11 modem jacks, and PC-to-server connectors) are functioning properly.
Inventory Management: Monitor and manage IT inventory, including desktops, laptops, and peripherals. Ensure accurate asset tracking and documentation.
Minimum requirements
Completed IT Related degree
1-2 years in desktop support or a similar IT role.
Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
Environment: Office setting. On-call support may be required during off-hours or weekends
Physical Demands: Ability to lift and transport computer equipment and peripherals as needed. May involve extended periods of sitting and computer use. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.
