Position Summary
The Junior Quantity Surveyor supports the commercial and financial management of hotel construction, refurbishment and maintenance projects. The role assists with cost estimation, procurement, contract administration, valuations and project cost control to ensure projects are delivered within budget, on time and in accordance with contractual requirements.
The incumbent will work closely with project managers, contractors, consultants and suppliers while gaining practical experience across all stages of the construction lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Planning & Estimating
- Assist in preparing project cost estimates and budgets.
- Measure quantities from architectural and engineering drawings.
- Compile Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Assist with feasibility studies and cost planning.
- Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Compare pricing and recommend cost-effective solutions.
Procurement Support
- Assist with the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers.
- Prepare tender documentation.
- Analyse quotations and tender submissions.
- Assist in evaluating contractor pricing.
- Prepare comparative cost analyses.
- Maintain procurement documentation.
Contract Administration
- Assist with administering construction contracts.
- Prepare payment certificates.
- Monitor contractual obligations.
- Assist in managing variations and change orders.
- Maintain contract documentation.
- Ensure contractual compliance.
Cost Control
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Track committed costs and project cash flow.
- Assist with monthly cost reports.
- Identify cost overruns and highlight financial risks.
- Support cost-saving initiatives.
- Update project cost trackers.
Valuations & Payment Certification
- Measure completed works on site.
- Assist in preparing interim payment certificates.
- Verify subcontractor claims.
- Assist with final account preparation.
- Reconcile project costs.
Site Measurement & Progress Monitoring
- Conduct site measurements.
- Verify quantities completed.
- Attend site meetings.
- Monitor construction progress against budgets.
- Assist with project reporting.
Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly commercial reports.
- Maintain project financial records.
- Compile cost summaries.
- Update project forecasts.
- Prepare management reports as required.
Compliance
- Ensure adherence to company procurement procedures.
- Maintain accurate project documentation.
- Support compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Ensure adherence to contractual requirements.
- Assist during project audits.
Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with contractors and subcontractors.
- Build relationships with suppliers.
- Communicate with architects, engineers and consultants.
- Support project managers with commercial information.
- Maintain professional client interactions.

Minimum RequirementsQualifications
- National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying.
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) is advantageous.
Experience
- 1–3 years' experience in quantity surveying or construction cost management.
- Experience in commercial, hospitality or residential construction projects is advantageous.
- Exposure to contract administration and cost reporting.
- Internship or graduate programme experience will be considered.
