This role is ideal for an Electrical or Electronic Engineer who enjoys solving complex plant challenges through automation, control systems, digital technologies and structured project delivery. You will play a key role in improving operational performance, supporting business transformation and delivering reliable APC solutions across the plant environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead Advanced Process Control and Process Automation projects
- Provide third-line APC maintenance support to plant operations
- Work with stakeholders to define business and system requirements
- Design and support digital technology solutions using agile methods
- Manage APC-related project portfolios, resources and priorities
- Conduct feasibility studies, system testing and technology evaluations
- Support the selection, acquisition, development and installation of control, instrumentation and electrical systems
- Review hardware, software and maintenance contracts
- Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for APC systems
- Ensure successful rollout of IM and digital transformation initiatives
- Maintain project documentation, support reports and technical records
- Stay current with trends and developments in Advanced Process Control
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, NQF Level 7
- 5 to 8 years’ experience managing Advanced Process Control and Process Automation systems
- Steel industry experience will be highly advantageous
- Experience with digital transformation initiatives, including:
- Level 1 cyber security
- Virtualisation
- Active Directory in a process control environment
- Internet of Things
- Strong exposure to data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications and outsourced systems
- Excellent understanding of project management principles
- Proven ability to apply APC technologies to solve business and operational problems
- Sound knowledge of applicable laws and regulations relating to APC
- Ability to manage priorities, resources and stakeholder expectations effectively
