Server Engineer – Windows & Linux

Company: Quodes Solutions
Location: Randburg, Gauteng
Salary: R20,000–R25,000 per month, depending on experience
Position: On-site Server Engineer

Job Overview

Quodes Solutions is looking for a reliable, proactive and solution-focused Server Engineer to join our team in Randburg.

The successful candidate will support, administer and troubleshoot both Windows and Linux server environments. Strong hands-on Linux server administration experience is essential.

This role is suited to someone who enjoys solving technical problems, maintaining stable IT environments and helping users remain productive.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, administer and troubleshoot Linux servers.
Manage Windows Server environments.
Support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and file services.
Monitor server performance, availability and security.
Manage backups, storage and disaster-recovery processes.
Administer virtualised environments using VMware and/or Proxmox.
Perform Linux shell scripting and basic automation.
Troubleshoot server, network and infrastructure-related issues.
Support Hyper-V and other Microsoft server technologies.
Assist with TCP/IP, VLAN, switching and firewall-related issues.
Apply system updates, patches and security improvements.
Maintain technical documentation.
Respond proactively to incidents and help prevent recurring problems.
Ensure systems remain reliable and users remain productive.

Minimum Requirements

At least three years of experience in IT support.
Practical experience administering and troubleshooting Linux servers.
Working knowledge of Windows Server environments.
Understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.
Experience with server backups, storage and monitoring.
Exposure to VMware, Proxmox and/or Hyper-V.
Basic networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, VLANs, switching and firewalls.
Experience with Linux shell scripting and automation.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Good communication and customer-service skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
A valid driver’s licence and your own reliable vehicle are mandatory.

Advantageous Skills

Relevant Microsoft, Linux or networking certifications.
Experience with Bash or other scripting languages.
Knowledge of server security and hardening.
Experience supporting business-critical infrastructure.
Familiarity with cloud or hybrid server environments.
