Key Responsibilities
The role is also to support constantly the improvement of the overall manufacturing performance of the plant using standardization, development and sustainability of the relevant operations in terms of equipment, continuous improvement, QC functions, Supply Excellence (SMED, 5S, TPM, AM, CI) and the on-going team work to the highest level possible.
The role consists of responsibilities in 4 key aspects:
Corrective Maintenance.
Preventive Maintenance.
Continuous Improvement.
Technical and Engineering Activities.
The maintenance function operates in a proactive and results-orientated way where it is necessary to be fast, focused and flexible.
The business operates in a highly competitive environment where customer service is of paramount importance, it is therefore imperative that manufacturing has excellent maintenance support to ensure on time production
The position must be flexible and effective in inter-personnel communication to meet the demands of the engineering and production teams, supervisors and management and support the culture of continuous improvement of World Class Manufacturing and a demanding service to engineering and manufacturing departments
Accountable for equipment reliability / performance and capacity and their related KPI's.
To deliver, do, perform and lead in day to day mechanical technical repairs, requirements, activities, needs, continuous improvement initiatives, installations:
Corrective Maintenance:
To ensure that a high quality of repair work is produced and maintained. Set standards and ensure maintenance is being done efficiently and effectively.
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Fault Findings.
Inspect mechanical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Repair or replace mechanical equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
Adhere to Planed Maintenance system requirements, procedure and ways of conducting / reporting preventive maintenance activities
Preventive Maintenance:
Accountable for the maintenance work of scheduled maintenance as well as shut maintenance.
Ensure that planned maintenance program functions on-time and accurately while minimizing work order backlog.
To support and be involved in preventative maintenance system based on TPM principals.
Develop / analyze information history recording of equipment failures in his area of responsibility to implement preventive maintenance schedule to prevent occurrence and breakdown.
Develop / design / inputs work order schedule with procedure to maintain/ replace / act on equipment during schedule: schematic / instruction / spare list, etc to be inputted in planned maintenance software. To be done in close collaboration with suppliers / colleagues.
Develop parameters record and check list for all equipment in the area of responsibility to be made available for each colleague and/or on maintenance system.
Continuous Improvement:
Lead, support Total Preventative Maintenance concepts and programs.
Analyze and carries out any actions related to MTBF analysis and improvement.
As a member of the Maintenance Team, supports the continuous improvement and growth of Team.
Lead / support SMED (Single minute of change of dyes) principles and practice.
Lead / support continuous improvement projects related to line performance and manufacturing performance.
Lead / support chrono-analysis study.
Lead / support workshop / brainstorming / activities on lean manufacturing and kaizen / TPM principles in collaboration with continuous improvement coordinator
Technical & engineering activities:
To undertake engineering/technical projects and manage it to completion and hand over to production.
Assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanical equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications.
Plan layout and installation of mechanical equipment and fixtures, based on work specifications and local codes.
Machining of parts as required.
Other tasks:
Fill daily maintenance logs/ job cards with thorough and accurate information.
Addressing many various maintenance requests timeously and effectively for utilities and building for factory and business as well.
To assist process, packaging and flow team driving their operation (change-over, start up, etc) and match their requirements / goals.
Ensure that all relevant training courses are identified, attended and are up to date.
Support finding appropriate suppliers to ensure respect of specifications, quality, lead-time, cost, etc
Support reduction of non-critical spares to ensure that net working capital is kept as low as possible.
Ensure correct reporting (as per SOP) of spare used / consumed: reference, number, emplacement, etc.
Perform business/administrative management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.
Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools.
Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair mechanical, equipment, and fixtures.
Fully adhere and cooperate to GMP / GHP procedures (i.e.: 5'S program in maintenance workshop); SHE requirements; quality requirements.
Supports and adheres to operational requirements.
Any tasks requested and/or delegated by the Line Manager.
Engineering Stores:
Responsible for spares inventory by defining critical spares and ensuring that accurate records are kept.
Support finding appropriate suppliers to ensure respect of specifications, quality, lead-time, cost, etc.
Support reduction of non-critical spares to ensure that net working capital is kept as low as possible.
Ensure correct reporting of spare used / consumed: reference, number, emplacement, etc.
Fully adhere and cooperate to GMP / GHP procedures (i.e.: 5'S program in maintenance workshop); SHE requirements.
To improve service to the technical team by ensuring that all parts and spares are in stock, specifically during a breakdown and or planned maintenance.
Accountable for stock levels ensuring that net working capital targets are achieved.
Ordering all required parts.
Sustaining the stock control management system
To be familiar with the production parts and machinery for the entire plant.
HR activities: especially for the reporting team structure.
Maintain sound IR among the team.
Participate / lead / drive IR and HR activities among the team as per management and /or company policy and objectives.
Supports and adheres to operational requirements.
Any tasks requested and/or delegated by the Line Manager.
Training / Meetings:
Train / coach / mentor and/or share knowledge and experience within the team to improve fault finding response of the department, equipment capability and availability, overall performance and knowledge of the department. Create, develop any document, SOP, etc, to support the transfer of knowledge
Train and/or ensure that employees are trained / respectful with regards to Health & Safety in the workplace.
Attend any training program as scheduled by company management as part of IDP program and train any designed person in the position.
Adhere to multi-skills policy and acquire at least one additional competence as established with and by Management Meetings / reviews / surveys / workshops / audits.
Attend /participate / lead actively into any regular meetings set as part of the organization structure, such as:
Morning meeting, departmental meeting, work floor meeting, etc.
SHE committee, etc.
HACCP Audits, etc
Appraisal and annual review, etc.
Team building, etc.
Health and safety:
Maintaining safety and integrity of mechanical systems, maintaining factory equipment at optimum efficiency and security through asset care approach.
Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
To aid line management on projects and shutdowns to ensure engineering quality standards are improved and to drive the culture from firefighting to planned maintenance.
Carry out internal audit on equipment safety. Conduct regular (as frequency defined) inspection on equipment safety: SHE checklist (i.e. safety switches inspection, guards, etc.)
Develop and maintain safety standards according to the health and safety Act.
Ensure that no LTI-MWI is caused due to exposure to move machine parts and exposed electrical equipment.
Ensure that rules and regulations regarding PPE are respected by self and fellow associates.
Ensure that mechanical risks are identified and rectified.
Inspect equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Compliances:
Always ensure that compliance to the LOTO procedure.
Ensure that all panels and MCC's are kept locked at all times and ensuring that no connection or terminal boxes are left open.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Define, Action, Control, Lead, Plan, within area of responsibility.
Daily performance and scheduled documents must always be up to date.
