The German International School Cape Town is looking to employ a teacher, for the subject German Second Additional Language (SAL), grade 8 – 12, for the NSC IEB English Stream Classes.

German Second Additional Language (SAL), Grades 8 – 12, for NSC IEB English Stream Classes
We are looking for a passionate German Second Additional Language (SAL) teacher who:
- Relevant teaching qualification, preferably at a degree or postgraduate level with a specialisation in German SAL. If holding an international qualification, all required SAQA evaluation certificates must be in order.
- Has min. 5 years of teaching experience in the subject German SAL.
- A clear criminal clearance.
- SACE registration.
- Extensive experience with the NSC IEB assessment system.
- A high level of computer literacy using modern technology teaching methods.
- A passion for teaching learners in the FET phase.
- Excellent communication skills in English and German.
- South African citizenship or permanent residency or a valid work permit.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality German SAL lessons that cater to a diverse range of learners and learning needs.
- Develop clear lesson plans, teaching resources, and assessments that support strong German language skills understanding, and allow for accurate tracking of learner progress to guide future instruction.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all learners are encouraged to develop confidence, curiosity, and resilience in German as a foreign language.
- Actively contribute to the ongoing development and review of the German SAL curriculum to ensure teaching remains relevant, effective, and responsive to learner needs.
The ideal candidate should have the following qualities:
- Experience in teaching the DSD I and DSD II German Language Diplomas (Deutsches Sprachdiplom Stufe) would be beneficial.
- Growth Mindset: Candidates should actively seek feedback and be willing to consider alternative perspectives and ideas.
- Proactive Attitude: The school looks for individuals who demonstrate initiative and maintain professionalism in all aspects of their role.
- Strong Communication Skills: Essential for building positive relationships with staff, students, and parents, candidates must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Organisation and Time Management: Teachers must be capable of planning, prioritising, and managing their workloads effectively to meet deadlines.
- Student-Centred Approach: Success involves prioritising student development by creating an inclusive, supportive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages curiosity and critical thinking.
- Child Welfare Commitment: Educators must show a strong dedication to the welfare and well-being of children, including knowledge of safeguarding principles in line with the school's child safekeeping practices.
- Commitment to School Ethos: Staff are expected to demonstrate a clear commitment to the values of the DSK.
