Position Purpose
Underwater inspection and report on the condition of marine infrastructure (quay walls, foundations,
pillars, steel structures, Dry and Floating docks, harbour craft etc); repair and maintain said
infrastructure (excluding harbour craft) to ensure safe structures for effective port operations.
Position Outputs
1. Underwater inspection, repairs and maintenance of underwater assets and report on the condition hulls of vessels to enable the formulation of maintenance programs / repairs and photographic / video surveys of foundations, pillars, columns, steel structure, slipways, quay walls, breakwater, seabed surveys, mooring blocks, chains, buoys etc.
2. Maintenance and repair of underwater structures.
3. Maintenance and repair of above water assets
4. Underwater / surface welding and cutting
5. Maintenance and servicing of diving equipment, airlifting equipment, etc.
6. Check all diving equipment before each diving operation
7. Safe operation of diving craft
8. Underwater hull surveys and inspections of vessels
9. Underwater inspection, maintenance and repairs to dredger reclaim / main dump doors and suction pipe
10. Maintain and repair pollution containment bubble screen
11. Salvage / retrieval of objects / equipment / bodies, etc
12. Removal of snagged objects from craft propellers
13. Compile inspection reports as per the AMPP.
14. Airlifting mud from entrance of Dry Dock / slipways
15. Maintain all diving equipment to ensure operational effectiveness and compliance with legislation
16. Apply safe working practices to ensure safety of diving team and all port users
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications & Experience: Qualified Civil Artisan Class 3 Commercial Diving certificate (4 weeks) Slinging and rigging course (1 week) Drivers licence code 08 (B) Driver's licence code10 (C1) will be an added advantage 3 Years related experience is required
