Atlas Plant Hire is looking for an experienced and qualified Diesel & Electrical Technician to join our growing East London branch.
This is a hands-on, dual-function technical role suited to someone with strong diesel/mechanical and electrical experience, who can confidently diagnose faults, carry out repairs and keep our equipment operating reliably.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Service, maintain and repair generators, compressors, pumps and support vehicles.
- Perform fault-finding, diagnostics and breakdown recovery, including rotational standby and after-hours support.
- Carry out major mechanical repairs, including engine overhauls, cylinder head work, fuel and cooling systems.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, pneumatic and 12V/24V auto-electrical systems.
- Perform electrical fault-finding and repairs on generators, including control panels, ATS, synchronising systems and controllers.
- Conduct generator testing, load testing, commissioning and pre/post equipment inspections.
- Complete accurate job cards, QC and incident reports, parts requests and assist with stock control.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure all work complies with SHEQ and ISO requirements.
- Provide technical support to the workshop, field service team and customers.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Millwright Trade Qualification – Essential.
- Minimum 5 years' relevant technical experience, preferably in heavy plant, generators or field service.
- Proven experience working on heavy-duty diesel engines.
- Diesel Mechanic Trade Test – Advantageous.
- Strong diesel/mechanical and electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience with generators, compressors, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics and basic auto-electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and technical documentation.
- Valid Code 10 driver's licence.
- Strong safety awareness, reliability, communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Willingness to work after hours, participate in rotational standby and travel nationally when required.
- Clear criminal record.
