JOB PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for managing and ensuring the design, development, documentation, implementation, support, and maintenance of system integration processes using middleware integration technologies to support the business requirement needs. To enable business processes optimisation within the university. This position is also responsible for human resources and risk management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Implement system integration solutions:
-
Gather, analyse, and document user requirements for business integrations;
-
Take responsibility for the implementation of robust, smooth-running integration processes;
-
Implement robust error exception handling mechanisms and procedures to easily monitor and manage implemented system integration processes;
-
Ensure that the implemented system integration processes are well designed for re-usability and sustainability;
-
Ensure the integration solution designs are well aligned with the University’s business processes and future growing business requirements;
-
Manage and propose feasible procedures and processes to standardise, automate, and simplify management of the implemented system integration processes;
-
Oversee change management to ensure smooth implementation of system integration processes and/or changes thereto;
-
Ensure that system developers and owners of the integration processes are well informed of changes and the effect they may have on existing system integration processes;
-
Identify, manage, and mitigate risks within the integration environment;
-
Define, plan, and coordinate the tasks related to the designed solution. Define milestones, test plans, and implementation plans;
-
Keep abreast of new technologies, “tools” and techniques related to system integration processes;
-
Ensure that mechanisms and procedures are put in place in order to ensure that the system integration teams’ activities comply with the agreed-on architecture, standards, methodologies, and work procedures applicable to system integration;

Compile and submit reports when required;
-
Human resource management:
-
Manage and maintain a performance management system for the Integration Team;
-
Identify learning and development opportunities for staff members, according to organisational and individual needs, through the development of a personnel development programme and according to University policies and procedures;
-
Participate in recruitment and selection processes;
-
Manage employee relations;
-
Provide technical guidance to colleagues, team members, and system administrators;
-
Implement system integration tools and infrastructure:
-
Oversee the implementation and configuration of the Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle Data Integrator infrastructure to ensure the University experiences full benefit from these implementations, and subsequent upgrades thereof;
-
Oversee documentation, configuration, and tuning of the implemented system integration architecture and tools;
-
Investigate feasible cutover/transition strategies to ensure business continuity during upgrades;
-
Support relevant stakeholders with upgrades of applications, which may affect implemented system integration processes;
-
Responsible for monitoring, performance testing, and tuning of system integration processes prior to, and after implementation;
-
Responsible for technical documentation of implemented system integration infrastructure and frameworks;
-
Advise management on feasible alternatives and/or changes to existing architecture, infrastructure, and/or strategies to ensure a well-governed and managed system integration infrastructure;
-
Do knowledge sharing with UP personnel to ensure a good understanding of system integration strategies and infrastructure implementation;
-
Implement mechanisms and procedures to monitor and maintain the integration infrastructure;
-
User support:
-
Establish effective communication channels with relevant stakeholders;
-
Ensure attendance to requests/incidents/problems on the Enterprise Service Management Platform (ESM);
-
Follow up on trends of reported production problems to identify the root cause of the problem, and subsequently rectify the problem and apply measurements to prevent similar problems in the future;
-
Keep users updated on resolution and/or progress on the resolution of production problems;
-
Act proactively to prevent production problems from realising.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
-
A relevant Bachelor’s/BTech degree, with
-
Five years’ proven experience in:
-
Design, develop, and maintain middleware and integration solutions using Java and Oracle SOA;
-
Business process design and implementation;
-
Develop and manage API integrations using REST and SOAP protocol;
-
Ensuring the availability, performance, and scalability of middleware services across Linux/Unix environments;
-
Implementing Oracle Fusion Middleware products, including loading of patches and undertaking version upgrades;
-
Leading and managing a technical system development team;
-
ITIL certificate;
-
Required technical skills:
-
Oracle SOA Suite (11g/12c);
-
Oracle Service Bus;
-
Oracle WebLogic Server;
-
JAVA;
OR
-
A relevant National three-year diploma, with
-
Seven years’ proven experience in:
-
Design, develop, and maintain middleware and integration solutions using Java and Oracle SOA;
-
Business process design and implementation;
-
Develop and manage API integrations using REST and SOAP protocol;
-
Ensuring the availability, performance, and scalability of middleware services across Linux/Unix environments;
-
Implementing Oracle Fusion Middleware products, including loading of patches and undertaking version upgrades;
-
Leading and managing a technical system development team;
-
ITIL certificate;
-
Required technical skills:

A tertiary education or similar environment;

Certification in:

Java development;

Project Management;

Oracle Fusion Middleware.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
