Agter-Pakhuis, Clanwilliam area – Western Cape: The ideal candidate is hands-on, technologically-orientated, solutions-driven, and equally comfortable managing operational activities in the field, interacting with guests, and handling administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will have a passion for agriculture, people development, the outdoors, and environmental conservation.
This role is well suited to candidates who are comfortable living and working in a remote farming environment and who are excited by the opportunity to become part of a close-knit Cederberg farming community. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture or a related field.
- 7–10 years’ practical experience in managing agricultural crop production and primary processing (fruit, field crops, or similar – experience with rooibos not required).
- Experience in the management of hospitality/accommodation/adventure- tourism (in addition to practical farming experience).
- Good mechanical understanding and skills relating to general farm maintenance and irrigation systems.
- Good computer literacy (MS Office and general farming software).
- Excellent communication skills in Afrikaans and English (written and spoken).
- Valid drivers license (including a truck drivers license and PDP).
- Must be physically healthy to perform the duties as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
- Assist the General Manager with the management of all farming activities including production, irrigation, processing, and export of organic rooibos tea.
- Assist the General Manager with the management of the launch and ongoing daily operation of the hiking trail.
- Managing the cultivation, irrigation, harvesting, processing, annual export of organic rooibos tea.
- Managing the remaining build, launch and ongoing operation of The Cederberg Trail, including bookings, welcoming hikers, logistics, cleaning, crew coordination, trail maintenance, and quality control of the trail experience.
- Organization and execution of maintenance and repairs to all farm & hiking trail buildings, large scale irrigation systems, facilities, vehicles, implements and machinery.
- Management 25 permanent staff and additional 35 seasonal workers.
- Managing compliance with health and safety standards, relevant HR & agricultural legislation, and farm certifications (Global G.A.P Food Safety, Rainforest Alliance, Organic Certifications).
- Project management for ongoing farm infrastructure projects (new groundwater, irrigation projects, building expansions, etc.)
- Sharing responsibility with the General Manager for after-hours matters including scheduled weekend work.
