Position Summary
The Junior Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for the company's café operations and supporting the finance function of the coffee roastery. This role ensures that daily sales, supplier invoices, stock transactions, cash reconciliations, and payment records are accurately processed and reconciled within the accounting system. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and proficiency in Xero, Lightspeed Retail, and Yoco payment systems.

Key Responsibilities
Daily Sales and Revenue Processing
- Import and reconcile daily sales from Lightspeed Retail.
- Verify sales reports against cash, card, and electronic payment receipts.
- Reconcile Yoco settlements to bank deposits and sales records.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between point-of-sale reports and banking records.
- Process daily cash-up reports from café locations.
Bank and Payment Reconciliations
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations in Xero.
- Reconcile Yoco merchant accounts and payment settlements.
- Monitor outstanding deposits and investigate variances.
- Ensure all transactions are accurately allocated to the correct accounts and cost centres.
Accounts Payable
- Capture supplier invoices into Xero.
- Match invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes where applicable.
- Prepare supplier payment schedules.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve account discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate creditor records.
Inventory and Stock Control Support
- Assist with recording stock purchases and inventory movements.
- Reconcile inventory transactions between Lightspeed Retail and Xero.
- Support monthly stock counts and investigate stock variances.
- Monitor café stock usage and report unusual trends.
General Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems.
- Process journals under supervision where required.
- Allocate expenses to the correct accounts and locations.
- Assist with month-end bookkeeping procedures.
- Ensure supporting documentation is complete and properly filed.
Financial Reporting Support
- Prepare basic financial summaries and reconciliation reports.
- Assist with month-end management accounts preparation.
- Generate sales and gross profit reports for café operations.
- Support audit requests and provide required documentation.
Compliance and Controls
- Ensure compliance with company financial procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
- Follow internal controls relating to cash handling and financial reporting.
- Assist in ensuring VAT records and supporting documentation are complete and accurate.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or related field.
- 1–2 years of bookkeeping or accounting administration experience.
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Advantageous
- Experience using Xero.
- Experience using Lightspeed Retail.
- Experience reconciling Yoco or similar merchant payment platforms.
- Experience within retail, hospitality, food service, or café environments.

Pay: R9 000,00 - R15 000,00 per month
