About the Role
The Schools Publisher: Zambia leads the research, proposal, development, and delivery of strong, market-facing, Zambia curriculum-aligned print products for curriculum reform projects. The role ensures that all products are of high quality, pedagogically sound, and responsive to curriculum requirements and market needs. The Schools Publisher: Zambia ensures that proposed products are well-positioned to meet the strategic objectives of OUP, as well as to achieve market approval, sales, and profitability targets. The Schools Publisher: Zambia will also publish in other areas from time to time, as required by market opportunities. This role will be reporting to the Publishing Manager: Schools Content & Vocational based in Goodwood, Cape Town.
The position is offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
What you will do:
Market-focused products are produced on time, within budget and sell budgeted quantities.
- Contribute to the strategy and plan for the Zambia business.
- Plan and resource market research.
- Commission and publish products that increase market share and contribute to profit.
Project Management
- Monitor project delivery and provide accurate and timely reporting on activities, systems, and processes.
- Respond to Submission opportunities.
Productive relationships with internal & external stakeholders maintained.
- Collaborate with Sales and Marketing.
- Liaise with Publishing Services (Editorial, design, administration and rights and permissions).
- Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with authors.
Budget managed effectively
- Manage costs against approved budget.
- Develop and manage cost control mechanisms.
- Forecast annual operational expenses in line with guidelines.
Business systems used efficiently
- Hold Key User responsibility for designated business system.
Ethical, regulatory and legal risks managed
- Adhere to OUP ethical policies and codes of conduct.
About you
Criteria
- Degree with relevant publishing experience
- Driver's Licence (Code B)
- 5 years' relevant working experience
- Experience working in multiple Southern African markets is an advantage
- Curriculum reform experience
- Can demonstrate a track record of conceptualizing and delivering high- quality successful print products
- Market research experience
- Experience with setting up complex projects and overheads budgets
- Able to apply tact and diplomacy skills to negotiate challenges, identify suitable solutions and coordinate necessary action
- Excellent time and project management expertise – with the ability to estimate realistic time and resource requirements to budget.
- Extensive experience of project management
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to think and act quickly, negotiate challenges and troubleshoot solutions often under pressure
- Excellent communication skills with proven ability to listen and collaborate with other teams to plan and coordinate activities
