Job Description: Learning Support Facilitator
Company: Connected Minds Pty Ltd
Location: Cape Town (Field-based / In-person)
Position Type: Part-time / Full-time
Role Overview
Connected Minds is seeking dedicated, highly adaptive Learning Support Facilitators to join our team. We support a diverse spectrum of students, spanning both mainstream learners requiring targeted academic support and neurodiverse learners who require specialized engagement profiles.
This role is designed for educators who can fluidly adapt their approach—balancing robust curriculum delivery with trust-building, connection, and student autonomy. Your primary goal will be to co-create a safe, regulated environment where learning happens naturally through collaboration, deep interest exploration, and mutual respect.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery & Adaptation: Confidently deliver and differentiate mainstream school curricula, translating academic content into engaging, accessible, and meaningful lessons tailored to the individual learner's pace and style.
- Relationship-Centered Facilitation: Establish strong, egalitarian bonds with learners, prioritizing emotional safety, validation, and regulatory support over strict compliance or rigid output.
- Family Collaboration & Partnership: Work closely and harmoniously with the families of our learners. Maintain open, supportive communication, ensuring that families are integrated into the support strategy and feel heard and valued.
- Tailored Educational Engagement: Facilitate personalized, interest-led learning experiences that integrate core academic requirements with scientific concepts, creative thinking, and real-world exploration.
- Sensory & Emotional Regulation: Actively read, interpret, and support the internal states and nervous system reactions of learners, utilizing co-regulation strategies to manage boredom, overwhelm, or sensory fatigue.
- Daily Progression Reporting: Maintain clear, concise, and sensitive documentation of daily sessions, capturing behavioral insights, curriculum milestones, and engagement levels in a professional format.
Required Experience & Qualifications
We are looking for a unique professional blend of traditional academic grounding and progressive, neuro-affirming perspectives.
- Educational Qualifications: Must hold a recognized teaching degree (e.g., B.Ed, PGCE) or be actively pursuing one.
- Teaching & Curriculum Delivery Experience: A solid foundational background in education with a proven track record of successfully delivering mainstream school curricula and managing instructional goals.
- Neurodiversity & Special Needs Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on experience working with neurodivergent individuals, including but not limited to Autism, ADHD, and specialized demand-avoidant or high-autonomy profiles.
- Versatility Across Learning Profiles: Experience supporting both mainstream students navigating traditional academic challenges and neurodiverse students requiring highly individualized accommodations.
- Lived or Practiced Neuro-Affirming Values: A proven track record of moving away from behavioral modification models toward relationship-based, trauma-informed, and identity-affirming support.
Core Competencies
- Respectful & Considerate Conduct: Consistently approach both the learner and their family with deep respect, discretion, and consideration, recognizing the unique dynamics and vulnerabilities within each household.
- Deep Empathy & Active Listening: The ability to tune into non-verbal cues and decode the underlying needs behind a learner's behavior.
- High Adaptability & Creativity: Comfort with fluid schedules and the ability to pivot an entire session based on the learner’s immediate regulation or interest level without losing sight of academic objectives.
- Collaborative Mindset: Ready to work alongside families and the core Connected Minds team to ensure consistency of care and approach.
