Full Job Description

Shipping Clerk
A well-established company based in Roodepoort, Gauteng is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Shipping Clerk to join its logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring import shipments, ensuring accurate shipping documentation, customs compliance and the timely delivery of goods. The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing imports from China, excellent organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12 (Matric).
Relevant qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, Shipping, International Trade or a related field will be advantageous.
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a shipping, logistics, imports or supply chain role.
Proven experience coordinating imports from China is essential.
Sound knowledge of import and export procedures, customs clearance processes and international trade regulations.
Strong understanding of Incoterms, including FOB, CIF, EXW and DDP.
Experience working with freight forwarders, customs clearing agents and shipping lines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience working on ERP, inventory, purchasing or logistics management systems.
Valid driver's licence will be advantageous.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate and monitor import shipments from international suppliers, with a strong focus on imports from China.
Liaise with freight forwarders, customs clearing agents, shipping lines, suppliers and transport providers to ensure efficient shipment processes.
Prepare, verify and maintain accurate shipping and customs documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, import permits and customs clearance documents.
Track shipments from origin through to final delivery and provide regular progress updates to internal stakeholders.
Assist with customs clearance processes and resolve shipment-related queries or delays.
Coordinate container deliveries and warehouse receiving schedules to ensure efficient stock receipt.
Reconcile shipment quantities against purchase orders and supplier documentation.
Monitor shipment costs and ensure compliance with approved logistics budgets.
Maintain accurate shipping records, filing systems and electronic documentation.
Identify potential shipment delays and proactively implement corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with company procedures, customs legislation and international shipping regulations.
Support inventory and procurement teams by ensuring the accurate and timely movement of imported goods.
