The purpose of this role is to supervise, motivate and inspire the kitchen teams at our store in Rosebank to create an environment that ensures an exceptional customer experience while managing the day-to-day operations. Daily and weekly tasks include recruitment, development, performance management and retention of people, ensuring food and safety standards, monitoring of inventory levels and shrinkage, effective shift scheduling to optimise labour hours efficiency and implementation of commercial campaigns.
Responsibilities:
Recruit, onboard and train employees
- Lead and/or participate in the recruitment and succession planning of kitchen crew employees, while mentoring and developing internal talent
- Act as a coach to the head chef and as a resource to each member of the team to help inspire the success of each store
- Ensure that all teams are trained on company SOPs and systems and build awareness of company guidelines and adherence to our standards of integrity and ethics
Demonstrate high levels of leadership
- Lead with an entrepreneurial spirit that inspires out of the box thinking and business owner mentality to impact results
- Act as a liaison between the store teams and head office by providing insights and feedback to drive enhanced efficiencies
- Take personal accountability for delivering results
- Foster an environment of teamwork and collaboration within the area operations and across all departments
- Prioritise store performance issues, and immediately address any lapses in compliance with company policies or loss of store profitability
- Be an effective listener that inspires trust and respect of direct reports

Oversee Regional Operations
- Conduct effective and regular store visits with an emphasis on stock management, rotation and food preparation
- Undertake periodic menu building and (re)costing exercises
- Ensure controllable business objectives are within budget including: sales, profitability, shrinkage / wastage within assigned stores
- Perform regular stock-take procedures and proactively address variances
- Achieve high standards of food and personal safety, cleanliness, maintenance, and organisation in all stores
- Liaison with suppliers regarding product quality and new products
- Monitors restaurant ratings and handles customer feedback and complaints as a mechanism for continuous improvement
- Undertake responsibility for all openings, renovations and closing of locations within the region. Additionally, partner with relevant departments, to implement plans for opening promotions, recruitment and training
- Ensuring the execution of all company operational standards in order to provide an exceptional store environment
- Pursue continuous operational improvements in the region
- All other duties or projects as assigned
Requirements:
- At least 3 years area / ops management experience in food retail or hospitality managing multiple sites (non negotiable)
- Relevant tertiary degree or diploma in retail management or hospitality (non negotiable)
- The scale of our business would suit someone who has worked in a smaller independent retailer rather than a national retail chain
- Fully computer literate in Google Workspace and other modern collaboration tools
- High degree of commercial acumen
- Good communication and collaboration skills, high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and negotiate effectively
- Organised and efficient with good time management
- Able to solve problems independently, cope with volume and deadline stress
- Valid driver’s licence and own transport essential
- Clear credit and criminal record
- Ability to undertake overnight travel when requested
- SA citizenship or valid work permit
Job Types: Permanent, Full-time
Pay: R6 000,00 - R7 000,00 per month
