Role Overview

As Senior Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in the continued growth of LedgerPlus Accounting. Reporting directly to the Co-Founder, you will take ownership of a portfolio of clients and help set the standard for service delivery across the firm. This is a step up from our Financial Accountant role - suited to someone ready to work with more autonomy, take on greater responsibility, and contribute strategically. As the team grows, there is a clear opportunity for this role to evolve into a people management position.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management & Advisory

Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of UK-based SME and startup clients.
Provide high-quality financial insights, advisory, and strategic guidance tailored to each client.
Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements and management accounts.
Support clients with financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.

Technical Accounting

Oversee end-to-end bookkeeping and accounting processes using Xero.
Review and sign off on bank reconciliations and balance sheet items prepared by junior team members.
Manage accounts payable and receivable workflows across the client portfolio.

Team & Culture

Act as a senior point of reference within the team, setting a high standard for quality and professionalism.
Support the onboarding and development of junior staff as the team expands.
Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing culture where best practices are shared and maintained.

Process & Efficiency

Drive process improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for automation and workflow optimisation.
Leverage tools such as Dext, Telleroo, and BrightPay to streamline operations.
Collaborate with the Co-Founder to develop scalable internal processes as the firm grows.

Skills & Experience

Essential

Prior experience working in an accounting role for a UK-based business (practice or industry).
Strong, hands-on experience with Xero - this is non-negotiable.
Prior experience managing or supervising people - desirable but not essential; ambition to do so is key.
Solid technical accounting knowledge, including preparation and review of financial statements.

Preferred

A recognised professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent.
Experience with Dext, Telleroo, BrightPay, or similar cloud accounting tools.
Background in an SME-focused practice environment.

Soft Skills

Strong communicator - able to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues alike.
Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously.
Proactive and solutions-focused, with a continuous improvement mindset.
A natural mentor who takes pride in developing those around them.
