Purpose of the Role
The Accountant will serve as the financial backbone of SE Steel Fabrication, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial records, management reporting, and statutory compliance. This is a broad, operationally engaged role suited to a candidate who is equally comfortable in a finance office and on a factory floor. The incumbent will report directly to the CEO and will be expected to contribute across multiple functions of the business including procurement, logistics, project management, and staff management where required.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare accurate monthly Management Accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) for CEO review
- Maintain the general ledger and post all transactions accurately and timeously
- Manage the accounting system (setup, maintenance, user access, integrity)
- Perform month-end and year-end close procedures
- Prepare and submit VAT returns and ensure SARS compliance
- Liaise with external auditors and facilitate the annual audit process
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Conduct bank reconciliations and petty cash management
Payroll
- Process monthly payroll for all permanent and contract staff
- Administer PAYE, UIF, and SDL submissions via eFiling
- Issue IRP5 certificates and manage SARS employer registration and returns
- Maintain accurate employee records and payroll schedules
- Ensure compliance with the BCEA and relevant sectoral determinations
Procurement & Cost Control
- Support procurement processes including supplier invoicing, purchase order verification, and cost allocation
- Monitor raw material and consumable costs against budget
- Assist in evaluating supplier pricing and identifying cost-saving opportunities
Project & Operational Support
- Track project-level costs and margins in collaboration with operations management
- Assist with logistics coordination where financial oversight is required (freight costs, delivery billing)
- Participate in operational planning meetings and provide financial input
Staff Management
- Provide oversight or supervision of administrative and financial support staff as required
- Assist with onboarding of new staff from a payroll and HR administration perspective
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure all financial activities comply with applicable legislation (Companies Act, SARS, COIDA, etc.)
- Maintain proper filing and document management for all financial records
- Flag financial risks or irregularities to the CEO promptly
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Bookkeeping diploma or equivalent (ICB, AAT, NQF Level 5/6, or higher — a B.Com Accounting degree will be advantageous)
- Minimum 5 years' hands-on bookkeeping / accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment preferred
- Demonstrated experience producing Management Accounts independently
- Proven payroll processing experience (PAYE, UIF, SDL)
- Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Pastel, QuickBooks, Xero, or similar)
- Strong MS Excel skills
- Valid South African ID and clear criminal record
Remuneration & Market Benchmark
The offered salary band of ZAR 40,000 – ZAR 50,000 CTC per month (target ZAR 45,000 CTC) is positioned at the senior end of the South African market for qualified, experienced accountants in a manufacturing/industrial context.
Market context (2025–2026 benchmarks):
- General bookkeepers (ICB / diploma, 2–4 years): ZAR 15,000 – ZAR 25,000/month
- Experienced bookkeeper / junior accountant (5+ years): ZAR 25,000 – ZAR 35,000/month
- Senior accountant / management accountant (degree or equivalent, 5+ years, manufacturing): ZAR 35,000 – ZAR 55,000/month
At ZAR 45,000 CTC, this role targets a candidate who holds at minimum a strong diploma-level qualification with substantial, relevant experience — or a degree with 4–6 years' experience. Candidates with a B.Com Accounting and manufacturing sector exposure will be at the upper end of the band. This is a competitive package for the Krugersdorp / West Rand market.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time, on-site role at 90 York Street, Krugersdorp. The incumbent will be based in an office within a working fabrication facility and will be required to move through the factory floor from time to time. The role demands physical presence — remote or hybrid working is not available. Standard working hours apply, with additional hours required at month-end or during audit periods.
