We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Spray Painter to join our workshop team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, mixing, and spray painting earthmoving and agricultural machinery to a high professional standard, ensuring every machine leaving our workshop meets the company's quality expectations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the below:
- Prepare machinery for painting by cleaning, degreasing, sanding, grinding, and removing rust or damaged paint.
- Mask components and areas that should not be painted.
- Repair minor surface imperfections using fillers where required.
- Ensure all surfaces are correctly prepared prior to priming and painting.
Paint Mixing & Application
- Mix primers, paints, hardeners, and thinners according to manufacturer specifications.
- Match paint colours accurately and maintain consistency across machines.
- Apply primers and topcoats using spray equipment to achieve a high-quality finish.
- Inspect completed work and perform touch-ups where necessary.
Equipment & Workshop Maintenance
- Clean and maintain spray guns, paint equipment, and associated tools.
- Ensure spray booths and work areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
- Report faulty equipment and assist in maintaining workshop standards.
Quality Control
- Inspect painted machinery for defects including runs, dry spray, orange peel, over spray, and contamination.
- Ensure completed work meets company quality standards before machines leave the workshop.
- Take pride in producing a professional, durable finish on every machine.
Health & Safety
- Follow all health and safety procedures relating to spray painting and hazardous chemicals.
- Wear and maintain the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Handle paints, thinners, and solvents safely and dispose of waste in accordance with company procedures.
General Workshop Duties
- Work closely with mechanics, fitters, and workshop personnel to meet production deadlines.
- Assist with general workshop housekeeping and cleanliness.
- Carry out additional workshop-related duties as reasonably required.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years' spray painting experience.
- Experience spray painting earthmoving machinery, agricultural equipment, commercial vehicles, trucks, trailers, or industrial equipment will be highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of industrial paint systems, including primers, 2K polyurethane, and epoxy coatings.
- Experience with paint preparation, colour mixing, and spray gun operation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good time management and ability to work under pressure.
- Physically fit and capable of working in a workshop environment.
- Own transport and a valid driver's licence.
