A little more about your role
We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mine Waste team in Midrand, South Africa. In this role, you will provide specialist geotechnical engineering services across the mining, infrastructure, and property and buildings sectors, with a particular focus on mine waste, tailings facility investigations, geotechnical site investigations, and multidisciplinary project delivery.
You will work as part of a collaborative team, supporting the delivery of geological and geotechnical projects from investigation and analysis through to reporting, recommendations, client engagement, and technical delivery. You will also play an important role in preparing proposals, tenders, reports and technical deliverables, while providing guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate professionals.

You will
Lead and manage geological and geotechnical projects, including multidisciplinary projects, tailings facility site investigations, infrastructure, and building projects.
Plan, manage and support geotechnical site investigations and fieldwork activities.
Interpret geological and geotechnical data, perform analysis, and develop sound conclusions and recommendations.
Prepare proposals, tenders, technical reports and other project deliverables.
Characterise ground conditions and engineering materials to support design and project decision-making.
Develop project methodologies, scopes of work and cost estimates for proposals.
Manage and conduct field observations and geological and geotechnical reporting for projects.
Apply sound engineering judgement when adapting methods, approaches and technical solutions where required.
Work closely with other senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to support integrated project delivery.
Provide technical guidance and supervision to technicians and junior professional staff where required.
Identify safety hazards, report OH&S incidents and carry out work in a safe and responsible manner.
Complete required inductions and project pre-requisites.
Conduct all work in line with WSP, client and government conditions, policies, procedures, regulations and standards.
Support client engagement and business development activities.
Prepare presentation materials and present technical information to clients and project stakeholders.
Participate in training, mentoring and knowledge-sharing activities with intermediate and junior geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate
A Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Postgraduate studies in Geotechnical Engineering would be advantageous.
At least 8 years’ post-graduate experience in geotechnical engineering.
Professional registration with ECSA.
Consolidated experience in geotechnical investigations, including factual and interpretive reporting.
Strong technical knowledge and practical application of soil and rock mechanics.
Advanced analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Strong written, diagrammatic and verbal communication skills.
Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
A track record of working on large, intermediate and small projects across a range of sectors.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability.
Strong commercial and technical awareness.
A commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
The ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
A collaborative mindset and a passion for developing others.
