Junior Process Engineer (Mining Industry)
A leading mining company based in Pretoria is seeking a motivated and hands-on Junior Process Engineer to join its growing technical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting metallurgical test work programmes, process optimisation initiatives and mineral processing plant development, while working closely with laboratories, engineering consultants and site personnel. The role offers exposure to operating plant optimisation, greenfield process design and regular travel to a mining operation in Jos, Nigeria.
- Minimum of 1–3 years' experience in minerals processing or metallurgical engineering.
- Bachelor's Degree or BEng/BSc in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related discipline.
- Exposure to gravity separation, magnetic separation or mineral processing plants is essential.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills with the ability to evaluate metallurgical test work and plant performance.
- Experience coordinating laboratory test work programmes and interpreting metallurgical results will be advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Valid passport with willingness to travel regularly to Nigeria and work in remote mining environments.
- Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
- Coordinate and manage metallurgical test work programmes with external laboratories from sample preparation through to final reporting.
- Liaise with laboratories, engineering consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure testing programmes are completed on schedule.
- Analyse metallurgical test work data and prepare technical recommendations for process improvements.
- Monitor and optimise the performance of existing mineral processing circuits, including magnetic separation plants.
- Conduct regular site visits to evaluate plant performance, identify operational challenges and recommend optimisation initiatives.
- Support the design and development of new mineral processing circuits through collaboration with engineering consultants.
- Assist with the commissioning, troubleshooting and optimisation of new processing equipment and plants.
- Work closely with site metallurgical personnel to monitor production performance and recovery efficiencies.
- Collect, analyse and report on plant operating data, identifying trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Assist in developing operating procedures, process documentation and technical reports.
- Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
- Participate in technical meetings and provide process engineering support to multidisciplinary project teams.
- Maintain effective communication with laboratories, consultants, suppliers and site personnel throughout project execution.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing plant efficiency, recovery and overall operational performance.
- Build technical knowledge and develop process engineering expertise through mentorship, site exposure and project involvement.
