This Sector is looking for another talented professional to complement their team, in the form of a Project Planner.

The below listed responsibilities and requirements are assessed during the interview stages and will further be confirmed with the relevant professional references that you currently are or have reported to in your previously two positions.

Core Purpose

GIBB requires a site-based Project Planner for one of its major projects (MCWAP-2) to plan and schedule project activities, resources, and timelines to ensure successful project completion.

As a site-based Project Planner the main responsibility is to co-ordinate and provide oversight to all project planning requirements provided by the Contractor and to ensure that key inputs by the Construction Project Manager, Chief Resident Engineers (CRE’s), and Resident Engineers (RE’s), Social Lead, Environmental Lead and Procurement Lead are well captured in the Construction Programme.

The site-based Project Planner reports directly to the MCWAP-2 Projects Control Manager and accounts to the Construction Project Manager.

Key Performance Areas

Coordinate the development of project plans and schedules by the Contractor, taking into consideration project scope, objectives, and constraints.
Assist in identifying and defining project tasks, dependencies, and resource requirements.
Assist in estimating project timelines and resource requirements and developing project budgets.
Developing project reports and status updates and presenting them to project stakeholders and management.
Monitoring project progress and identifying potential issues or risks and taking corrective action as required.
Assessing and analysing the Construction Programme updates by the Contractor and report on deviations, trends and risks.
Coordinating with project teams to ensure that project schedules and plans are being followed, and that project deliverables are on track.
Ensuring that project schedules and plans are updated as required to reflect changes in project scope, objectives, or constraints.
Identifying opportunities to improve project efficiency and effectiveness and making recommendations for process improvements.
Proactively give feedback to the CRE’s and RE’s on project progress.
Participating in project team meetings and providing guidance and support on project planning and scheduling.
Ensuring compliance with project management standards and best practices.
Providing oversight to the maintenance of the programme by the Contractor.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Degree or BTech in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Commerce. A copy of the qualification and academic transcript is required.
A relevant qualification or certification in Project Management, Engineering, or a related field is required.
Professional registration with ECSA or SACPQSP is advantageous. Proof of registration, including registration number is required.
Registration with PMI is advantageous.
Matric (Grade 12). A copy of the certificate with results is required.

Experience:

2 to 5 years’ site-based Project Planner experience.
2 to 5 years’ experience within the Built environment.

Person Requirements

Core Competencies:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail.
The ability to work under pressure.
Must be able to work independently.
Must have knowledge of project management principles, such as scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management.
Must be proficiency in project management software and tools.
Must have MS Project, MS Office and Primavera P6 experience.
