AquaNav Terminals is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to oversee project cargo, breakbulk, steel, bulk and general cargo operations within a port, warehouse, and open storage yard environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising cargo operations, ensuring cargo is handled safely and efficiently, maintaining accurate documentation, coordinating operational staff, and ensuring customer requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the company's operations site representative during cargo receipt, loading, offloading, and dispatch operations.
- Prepare yard plan, cargo allocation, and stock control.
- Supervise daily cargo handling activities within the warehouse and yard.
- Coordinate cargo movements between vessels, warehouses, transporters, and storage areas.
- Supervise tally clerks, cargo handlers, equipment operators, and contractors.
- Ensure cargo is safely stored, stacked, secured, and handled in accordance with operational requirements.
- Ensure customer cargo is loaded, offloaded, and stored without damage.
- Read and implement customer loading, discharge, and receiving plans.
- Monitor cargo condition and ensure cargo integrity is maintained.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with company SHEQ policies and site procedures.
- Investigate and report incidents, damages, and non-conformances.
- Review and submit daily operational documentation and reports to management.
- Liaise with customers, transporters, shipping agents, and service providers.
- Work effectively with operational teams in a high-pressure environment.
- Report directly to the Operations Manager.
Minimum RequirementsQualifications
- Matric (Grade 12).
- Valid driver's license advantageous.
- Certifications in cargo handling, stacking, loading, lifting, rigging, or safety-related training will be advantageous.
- Forklift, Reach Stacker, Hyster, Rigging, or Lifting Operations certification will be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years' experience in cargo handling, logistics, warehousing, terminal operations, stevedoring, or project cargo operations.
- Experience handling abnormal cargo, breakbulk/ bulk cargo, steel products or containers.
- Previous experience as a Team Leader, Senior Tally Clerk, Cargo Coordinator, Foreman, or similar supervisory role will be advantageous.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to read and understand loading plans, receiving plans, packing lists, and cargo documentation.
- Good understanding of cargo handling, cargo securing, stacking, and storage practices.
- Sound understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make operational decisions.
- Basic computer literacy and report-writing ability.
- Team leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and take ownership of operations.
- Good command of English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and vessel-related shifts.

Remuneration
Market-related salary package commensurate with qualifications and experience.
