Macsteel VRN Gauteng requires a suitably qualified and experienced Maintenance Technician. The role is responsible for technical maintenance support, machinery repair and commissioning, equipment inspections, shutdown maintenance planning, compliance with safety and operational standards, and supporting continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives. Suitable candidates Candidates must be a qualified Millwright or Electrical Artisan, and have 5 years’ relevant experience, including hands-on PLC systems, wiring, and technician-level supervisory exposure. Crane, forklift, working at heights, and fall arrest certifications are essential, while a Certificate of Compliance would be advantageous.
- Minimum NQF Level 4 - 5 (Grade 12+ / Higher certificate)
- Qualified Millwright / Electrical Artisan
- 5 years’ total experience essential, including operational hands-on experience with electronic PLC systems and wiring and technician-level supervisory exposure.
- Sound knowledge of the OHS Act
- Ability to understand and learn new products
- Basic proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook
- A Code 08 Driver's License is essential.
- Crane licence, Forklift licence, Working at Heights certification, and Fall Arrest certification are essential.
- Certificate of Compliance certification will be advantageous.
- Available and willing to work overtime when required
- Respond to technical queries within the required timeframe.
- Commission and repair machinery, equipment, and products as required.
- Conduct on-site repairs, commissioning activities, and technical surveys.
- Perform maintenance overhauls and assemble products as required.
- Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Calibrate or adjust equipment/tools to ensure quality production.
- Monitor activities affecting environmental quality.
- Comply with work rules, standards, and methods.
- Take care to minimize waste.
- Identify and provide feedback on cost-saving initiatives within area of control.
- Compile shutdown maintenance plans and provide electrical and mechanical engineering support to projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and energy-saving initiatives.
- Ensure the job card system is adhered to and remains effective in line with the maintenance system.
- Provide specialised technical and professional support to internal and external stakeholders to achieve functional and organisational objectives.
- Build and maintain interpersonal and team relationships to sustain a stable working environment and support team objectives.
- Adhere to statutory regulations, organisational standards, policies, and procedures; report non-compliance and implement corrective action where required.
