Key Responsibilities:
o Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
o Maintain the safety of all systems and processes in the Isando Rubber Plant and implement world class safety practices as guided by the Health and Safety department and senior management
o Ensure that the Machine shop complies to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85: 1993)
o Maintain the integrity of the ISO 9001: 2008 quality assurance system within the Machine shop, including product traceability
o Ensure daily alignment between shopfloor activity, MES transactions, and SAP PP/MM postings.
o Monitor system exceptions (backflush errors, WIP variances, BOM inaccuracies) and drive corrective actions.
o Validate and optimise routing, BOM, work centres, and production versions.
o Ensure full digital traceability of batches, heat numbers, materials, and process parameters.
o Lead system-related root cause investigations for data inaccuracies or posting errors.
o Support upgrades, enhancements, and integrations between MES, SAP, and production equipment.
o Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and IE tools (e.g., VSM, time studies, line balancing, SMED, SPC) to improve throughput and reduce waste.
o Conduct cycle time analysis, capacity studies, and bottleneck elimination.
o Develop and maintain Standard Work, SOPs, and Work Instructions ensuring process stability.
o Identify loss areas and implement productivity, quality, and cost reduction initiatives.
o Lead CI projects from concept through implementation and verification of savings.
o Ensure actual production follows defined processes, controls, and specifications.
o Provide technical leadership during production disturbances, deviations, or quality concerns.
o Analyse process performance data (cycle time, scrap, rework, OEE drivers) and implement corrective actions.
o Support tooling improvement, fixture optimisation, and process capability enhancement.
o Collaborate with Quality to ensure robust control plans, PFMEA updates, and NCR resolution.
o Work closely with Production Supervisors/Shift Leaders to ensure process discipline.
o Facilitate daily Tier meetings to highlight system issues, variances, and improvement actions.
o Provide technical coaching to operators and team leaders on processes, standards, and systems usage.
o Build a strong culture of accountability, problem‑solving, and continuous improvement.
o Adherence to all statutory SHE and housekeeping requirements
o Adhere to Duty of Care Policy at all times
Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
- Degree Industrial Engineering/Degree Metallurgical Engineering
- Exposure to foundry quality improvement methodologies and initiatives.
- Knowledgeable in SAP and MES systems
- Computer literate – MS Office Suite
- 3-5 years relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
