HOPE worldwide South Africa is seeking an experienced Advocacy, Communication and Knowledge Sharing (ACKS) Consultant to lead the marketing and communications while providing strategic support to the Media & Marketing Department.
This role will provide strategic communications support across the organisation, ensuring that HOPE worldwide South Africa's programmes, partnerships and impact are effectively communicated to stakeholders, donors, media and the public. The consultant will also lead the implementation of marketing and advocacy strategies, support fundraising and outreach campaigns, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and oversee organisational branding and communications.
A. Advocacy and Communications
· Develop and implement advocacy and communication strategies aligned with organisational priorities.
· Develop strategic communication plans for campaigns, programmes and events.
· Draft press releases, media statements, speeches, opinion pieces and organisational messaging.
· Manage relationships with media, partners and key stakeholders.
· Coordinate media opportunities, interviews and organisational publicity.
· Represent the organisation at stakeholder engagements where required.
B. Marketing and Brand Management
· Develop and implement integrated marketing campaigns.
· Ensure brand consistency across all organisational communications and marketing materials.
· Oversee website content, digital marketing and search engine optimisation (SEO).
· Manage newsletters, email marketing campaigns and other digital communication platforms.
· Monitor campaign performance, analytics and communication KPIs, producing regular reports and recommendations.
C. Knowledge Sharing
· Capture and document organisational learning, success stories and programme impact.
· Develop case studies, beneficiary stories, reports and knowledge products.
· Support internal communication and knowledge-sharing across programme teams.
· Promote learning and best practices through digital and traditional communication channels.
D. Campaigns, Events & Partnerships
· Lead communications for organisational campaigns, fundraising initiatives and events.
· Coordinate event branding, promotional materials and communications.
· Support donor engagement through compelling communication materials and impact reporting.
· Strengthen relationships with strategic partners and Family Groups through ongoing communications and engagement.
E. Leadership & Strategic Support
· Provide strategic communications and marketing support to programme teams.
· Guide and support the Media & Marketing Assistant.
· Support provincial teams with campaign implementation and communications.
· Identify new opportunities to increase organisational visibility, advocacy and engagement.
F. Advocacy, Media Relations & Communications
· Develop and implement advocacy, communication and media engagement strategies aligned with organisational priorities.
· Build, maintain and leverage strong relationships with journalists, editors, producers and media houses across print, radio, television and digital news platforms.
· Proactively pitch compelling stories, programme successes, opinion pieces and press releases to traditional media to secure regular media coverage.
· Coordinate media interviews, press conferences and broadcast opportunities for organisational spokespeople.
· Draft high-quality press releases, media statements, speeches, opinion pieces and organisational messaging.
· Monitor and evaluate media coverage, providing reports on media reach, sentiment and impact.
· Represent the organisation in media engagements and strategic stakeholder meetings where required.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications
· Matriculation
· Bachelor's degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field.
Knowledge/ Skills:
· Minimum of five years' experience in advocacy, communications, public relations or journalism.
· Demonstrated experience working with traditional media, including newspapers, radio and television.
· Established relationships and a strong network of contacts within South African media houses, journalists, editors and broadcasters.
· Proven track record of securing positive media coverage and managing media relations.
· Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills, with experience producing press releases, opinion pieces and feature articles.
· Experience developing and implementing communication and advocacy strategies.
· Strong understanding of digital communications, branding and social media.
· Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
· Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Experience working within the NGO or development sector will be an added advantage.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: R1,00 - R2,00 per month
