Job Purpose

To identify potential profit by assessing credit applications with a view to granting credit within acceptable risk parameters and so contribute to the achievement of Nedbank's strategic priorities.

Job Responsibilities

Achieve low default target by assessing the quality of applications within bank guidelines, external policies and legislation.
Contribute to the growth of the department asset book by granting credit within acceptable risk parameters.
Contribute to improved client service by assessing applications within prescribed turnaround times.
Achieve results cost effectively by using resources prudently at all times.
Reduce losses to the bank by identifying and reporting possible fraud.
Facilitate achievement of Sales targets by providing advice to Sales Team on choosing appropriate products and capturing required information.
Build a collaborative relationship with Sales Team by using effective interpersonal skills to determine needs and providing advice that facilitates target achievement.
Smooth the flow of work by maintaining relationships with internal stakeholder network.
Ensure that work is delivered according to plan by monitoring progress against personal scorecard objectives (targets, service level agreements, quality of assessment) and taking remedial action where necessary.
Manage time and resources by ensuring that work is completed efficiently without compromising on performance standards.
Meet client service level agreements by processing applications within prescribed turnaround times and in line with agreed standards.
Comply with Credit policy and lending mandate by operating within set guidelines.
Minimize risk of default by assessing the quality of applications within bank guidelines, external policies and legislation.
Comply with risk standards by monitoring applications to identify possible fraud and reporting appropriately.
Improve effectiveness of credit assessment processes by constantly reviewing outputs and making recommendations.
Support the achievement of the business strategy, objectives and values by reviewing Nedbank and Business Unit Plan and ensuring delivered systems, process, services and solutions are aligned.
Identify training courses and career progression input and feedback from management.
Ensure all personal development plan activities are completed within specified timeframe by monitoring progress against plan and taking remedial action where necessary.
Share knowledge and industry trends with team and stakeholders during formal and informal interaction by highlighting important new information.
Obtain buy-in for developing new and/or enhanced processes (e.g. operational processes) that will improve the functioning of stakeholders' businesses by highlighting benefits in support of the implementation of recommendations.
Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc).
Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy (e.g.. Green Strategy).
Seek opportunities to improve business processes and systems by identifying and recommending effective ways to operate and adding value to Nedbank.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Minimum Experience Level

5+ years relevant credit experience
Proven expertise to assess home loans applications applicable to individual and juristic counterparties respectively
Credit mandate of R4m
