The Corridor Manager is responsible for owning and optimising transport capacity across an assigned trade corridor, ensuring reliable, long-term capacity through strategic carrier partnerships, dedicated fleet agreements, and contracted commitments. As the single point of accountability for corridor capacity, the role develops a sustainable transport network, maintains contingency capacity to meet fluctuating demand, and maximises truck utilisation by reducing empty kilometres through effective backload planning.
The role is also accountable for driving cargo density by consolidating freight across customers, commodities, and business units to create efficient, high-volume transport flows. By enabling capacity certainty for Commercial teams and reliable transport solutions for Operations, the Corridor Manager supports business growth, service excellence, and profitability while promoting Steinweg’s 5 Cs culture of Value, Cash, Culture, Consistency, and Connectedness.
- Own the end‑to‑end transport capacity strategy for the corridor.
- Secure long‑term transport capacity through dedicated fleet agreements, strategic carrier partnerships, and contracted commitments.
- Build and maintain a sustainable network of transport providers, ensuring a balance between cost, reliability, and availability.
- Eliminate capacity shortages and maintain contingency capacity for peak demand or disruptions.
- Continuously match backloads to reduce empty kilometres and increase truck utilisation.
- Build cargo density by consolidating multiple customers and commodities into single loads and integrated solutions.
- Develop, manage, and negotiate transport cost models with carriers – including fixed‑cost recovery models, dedicated fleet agreements, and rate structures.
- Understand fleet economics – cost per kilometre, cost per tonne, round‑trip optimisation, asset utilisation, and lifecycle costing.
- Conduct commercial negotiations with transporters on rates, contract terms, and service levels.
- Own market intelligence on the corridor, including competitor pricing, cargo volumes, infrastructure developments, port congestion, and customer expansion plans.
- Use intelligence to proactively position Steinweg and secure capacity ahead of demand.
- Ensure that Steinweg is aware of market changes months before they impact operations.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with all corridor stakeholders: transport providers, rail operators, customs authorities, border officials, port authorities, government agencies, shipping lines, and industry associations.
- Represent Steinweg in corridor‑related forums and stakeholder engagements.
- Develop strategic relationships where collaboration benefits capacity and service delivery.
- Ensure that Steinweg is recognised as the preferred logistics partner on the corridor.
- Provide capacity certainty that enables the Commercial team to win and retain business. The Corridor Manager does not own customer acquisition but enables it.

- Drive collaboration between internal departments to deliver seamless customer solutions.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing across corridors to replicate best practices.
- Use Transport Management Systems (TMS) and BI dashboards to monitor corridor performance in real time.
- Analyse historical data, current trends, and forecasted volumes to make informed decisions.
- Use data to identify capacity gaps, predict transit times, optimise asset utilisation, monitor carrier performance, and identify opportunities to increase cargo density through consolidation and load matching.
- Translate data insights into actionable strategies – move from reactive to proactive capacity management.
- Ensure that data‑driven decisions become the standard approach for capacity planning and carrier engagement.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, customs, transport, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Identify operational, commercial, and security risks across the corridor.
- Implement mitigation strategies to minimise disruptions and financial losses.
- Monitor changes in legislation affecting freight forwarding and logistics operations.
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Bachelor’s degree (Logistics, Supply Chain, Transport Economics, Business, or related)
- 10+ years in logistics, freight forwarding, or transport operations
- 5+ years in a senior leadership or management role
- Proven experience in capacity planning, demand forecasting, and carrier
- Management
- Commercial and financial management experience (P&L ownership)
- Deep understanding of fleet and transport economics (cost per km, per tonne,
- round‑trip optimisation) in the Sub‑Saharan Regional space
- Experience with TMS, BI dashboards, and data analytics tools
- Experience engaging with government authorities, customs bodies, and
- infrastructure stakeholders
- Experience in steel, mining, agri, tobacco and / or bulk commodities logistics

- High computer literacy (TMS, BI tools, MS Office).
