Purpose of this Role:
To safely operate, monitor and maintain the factory utility plants, ensuring the continuous supply of essential utilities to production. The Utilities Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant, Water Recycling Plant, Cooling Towers and Compressor Plant, while supporting preventative and breakdown maintenance activities to maximise plant reliability, efficiency and environmental compliance.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & OUTPUTS:
Utility Plant Operations
- Operate and monitor the Effluent Treatment Plant in accordance with operating procedures and environmental legislation.
- Operate and monitor the Water Recycling Plant to ensure the effective treatment and reuse of process water.
- Operate and monitor the Cooling Towers to ensure efficient cooling water circulation and temperature control for manufacturing processes.
- Monitor cooling tower water quality, chemical dosing, bleed-off and make-up water systems.
- Conduct routine inspections of cooling tower fans, pumps, motors, strainers, pipework and associated equipment.
- Operate and monitor the Compressor Plant to ensure a reliable supply of compressed air to the factory.
- Conduct routine inspections of all utility plant equipment, including pumps, motors, compressors, valves, filters and pipelines.
- Monitor plant operating parameters, including pressures, temperatures, flow rates and water quality.
- Maintain accurate daily operating logs, inspection records and equipment checklists.
- Identify and report equipment faults, abnormal conditions and process deviations.
Maintenance Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance within the utility plants.
- Assist the Utilities Foreman and Engineering Department with planned maintenance, shutdowns, equipment installations and breakdown repairs.
- Carry out basic mechanical maintenance including lubrication, cleaning, filter replacement and minor repairs.
- Ensure utility equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean, safe and organised condition.
Environmental & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all environmental legislation, operating permits and company procedures relating to wastewater treatment, water recycling and cooling water systems.
- Monitor chemical dosing systems and safely handle treatment chemicals.
- Monitor water consumption and identify opportunities for water conservation.
- Support initiatives aimed at reducing utility consumption and improving energy efficiency.
- Adhere to all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures and permit-to-work requirements.
