Mezé Foods is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Credit Controller to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for managing key FMCG retail customer accounts, maintaining healthy cash flow, reducing credit risk, and building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the financial health of the business through effective collections, reconciliations, claims management, and customer account administration.
Due to the nature of the role and the complexity of managing large national retail customers, previous Credit Control experience within the FMCG sector is essential. Experience managing major retail accounts, particularly Shoprite Checkers, will be highly advantageous.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and monitoring customer accounts to ensure the timely collection of outstanding balances.
- Managing key retail customer accounts, including national retail groups and customer portals.
- Following up on overdue accounts and negotiating payment arrangements where required.
- Performing account reconciliations and investigating payment discrepancies, deductions, claims, and short payments.
- Resolving customer queries efficiently and professionally while maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Preparing collection, ageing, and account status reports for management.
- Working closely with Sales, Customer Service, Logistics, and Finance teams to resolve account queries and support business objectives.
- Ensuring compliance with company credit policies, procedures, and financial controls.
- Assisting in reducing bad debt exposure, improving debtor days, and supporting healthy cash flow.
- Managing customer deductions, promotional claims, rebates, and settlement discounts in line with company processes.
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a Credit Control, Debtors Administration, or Accounts Receivable environment.
- Previous Credit Control experience within the FMCG sector is essential.
- Experience managing major retail customer accounts, particularly Shoprite Checkers, will be highly advantageous.
- Strong reconciliation, account investigation, and claims management experience.
- Sound understanding of customer deductions, promotional claims, rebates, and credit control processes.
- Experience working on ERP systems, preferably Syspro or a similar integrated business system.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and accountability.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
