Full Job Description

Position Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented Draftsman to join our engineering team. Unlike mass-production environments, our facility focuses on High-Mix, Low-Volume (HMLV) manufacturing. This means you will rarely work on the same part twice. You will be responsible for translating complex design concepts into precise technical drawings and fabrication packages that guide our production floor through unique, custom builds.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Documentation: Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for custom parts, assemblies, and tooling using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor).
Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Review designs to ensure they can be efficiently produced using our specific shop capabilities (CNC machining, welding, manual assembly, etc.).
BOM Management: Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for rapid integration into our ERP/MRP systems.
Rapid Iteration: Update drawings based on "redlines" from the shop floor to ensure the final documentation matches the as-built product.
Standardization: Even in a custom environment, you will develop and implement drawing standards and templates to speed up the documentation process for new projects.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and shop floor leads to troubleshoot fabrication issues in real-time.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education: Associate degree in Drafting/Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of 3D modeling software and 2D drafting standards (ANSI/ASME Y14.5).
GD&T Knowledge: Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to ensure parts fit correctly the first time.
Adaptability: Proven ability to manage multiple unique projects simultaneously and pivot quickly as production priorities shift.
Manufacturing IQ: A solid grasp of metal fabrication, machining tolerances, and material properties.

The Ideal Candidate

In an HMLV environment, speed and accuracy are equally vital. We are looking for someone who:

Enjoys the variety of working on different parts every single day.
Can visualize a 3D assembly from a rough sketch or verbal instruction.
Possesses a "measure twice, cut once" mindset to minimize material waste on low-run projects.

Physical Requirements & Environment

Primarily office-based but requires frequent trips to the production floor to consult with fabricators.
Must be comfortable wearing PPE (safety glasses, steel-toed boots) when in manufacturing areas.

Pay: From R15 000,00 per month
