We are looking for an experienced Workshop Foreman to manage our machine shop and engine rebuild centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising machinists and engine rebuild technicians, planning workshop workflow, controlling work-in-progress, ensuring high-quality rebuilds, maintaining job-cards discipline, and driving safe, efficient and profitable workshop operations.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in engine rebuilding, machining, diesel engines, automotive engineering or heavy industrial workshops, combined with proven leadership ability.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily workshop, machine shop, and engine rebuild activities.
- Allocate work to machinists, rebuild technicians and apprentices
- Control strip-and-quote, machining, assembly testing, PDI and final quality inspection processes.
- Monitor job progress, labour hours, WIP, parts delays and turnaround times
- Ensure accurate job cards, inspection reports, photos, measurements, test records and job-closing documents.
- Maintain high technical standards and reduce rework
- Liaise with parts, procurement, admin, sales, customers and management
- Coach, mentor and develop the workshop team.
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Trade qualification preferred: Diesel Mechanic, Fitter and Turner, Automotive Machinist, Mechanical Fitter
- 7-10 years technical experience in engine rebuilding, machining, diesel engines, generators, automotive engineering or heavy equipment.
- 3-5 years workshop supervisory experience
- Strong diagnostic, measurement, machining, assembly and quality-control knowledge.
- Computer literate with job-card/ERP experience
- Strong Leadership, planning, communication and problem solving skills
