Production Metallurgy
- Provide metallurgical support to the investment casting production process.
- Monitor and control melting, alloy composition, pouring and solidification parameters.
- Investigate and resolve metallurgical and process-related casting defects.
- Support process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical input into new product introduction and process development.
- Assist Production with the identification and elimination of recurring process problems.
- Monitor heat-treatment processes and ensure compliance with specified requirements.
Quality & Metallurgical Control
- Ensure castings comply with customer specifications, material standards and internal requirements.
- Conduct and/or coordinate metallurgical testing, including chemical analysis, hardness, mechanical testing and microstructural examination.
- Investigate NCRs, customer complaints and internal quality failures.
- Perform root-cause analysis and develop effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Evaluate casting defects including porosity, shrinkage, inclusions, cracking, cold shuts, misruns and dimensional/metallurgical abnormalities.
- Review and approve metallurgical test results and material certification.
- Support NDT activities and interpretation where required.
- Maintain accurate metallurgical records and technical documentation.
Technical Responsibilities
- Interpret customer material specifications, drawings and applicable standards.
- Provide technical support to Engineering, Quality, Production and Sales.
- Conduct metallurgical failure investigations and technical reports.
- Assist customers with technical and metallurgical queries.
- Support material qualification, process validation and product development.
- Identify opportunities to improve metallurgical quality, yield and process capability.
Minimum Requirements
- BSc/BTech/National Diploma in Metallurgy, Physical Metallurgy, Materials Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in a foundry or metal casting environment.
- Investment casting experience will be highly advantageous.
- Practical knowledge of carbon steels, stainless steels and alloy steels.
- Sound understanding of:
- Metallurgical principles
- Solidification and microstructure
- Heat treatment
- Casting defects
- Alloy control
- Mechanical properties
- Metallurgical testing
- Root-cause analysis
- Experience with chemical analysis/spectrometry.
- Experience interpreting material specifications and standards.
- Knowledge of NDT methods will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality management systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Good technical report-writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering and customers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Pay: R70 000,00 - R90 000,00 per month
