The Assistant Technician forms part of a
two‑man technical team, consisting of a Technician and an Assistant Technician. Together, the team is jointly responsible for delivering high‑quality
hardware and software installations, commissioning, and technical support at both new and existing customer facilities. The Assistant Technician supports the Technician in all technical, operational, and administrative activities required to complete installations to SBT standards.
What you'll do:

Work as a coordinated two‑man unit with the Technician to assist with installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of all relevant hardware and software systems.

Provide on‑site support to ensure stable operation of newly installed and existing systems.

Assist in ensuring all installation activities meet OEM, Site, Customer, and SBT standards.

Maintain a professional presence at customer sites and uphold all SHER and company compliance requirements.

Support the Technician, Senior Technicians, Team Leaders, and Project Managers as required.

Assist with daily reporting, stock allocation, and documentation to support project progress and invoicing.

Core Technical Activities

Assist the Technician with hardware and software installation, configuration, and maintenance on all relevant systems and equipment.

Support quality inspections during and after installation to ensure compliance and operational readiness.

Assist with resolving basic hardware‑related service calls for existing customers.
-
Request guidance or support when needed to avoid rework and ensure correct first‑time execution.

Stock, Materials & Documentation
-
Prepare required stock, tools, and consumables prior to installation.
-
Ensure all stock and consumables are correctly booked to the relevant project or service call.

Assist with allocating correct stock numbers to projects/calls to support accurate and timely invoicing.

Ensure faulty customer equipment is booked in for repairs and removed from loan accounts or project allocations.

Assist with completing and updating handover documentation for customer‑to‑customer contracts and stock usage.
-
Reporting & Administration
-
Assist in obtaining delivery notes or acceptance certificates upon completion of installations.
-
Update relevant systems daily with accurate information relating to work completed.
-
Provide daily feedback to the Technician and Technical Team Leader on progress, issues, and next steps.

Assist with compiling reports when required for project, service, or operational purposes.

Complete timesheets, documentation, and reporting daily.

Submit weekly timesheets and vehicle log sheets as per company requirements.

Collaboration & Support
-
Provide assistance to the Technician, Support Technicians, Senior Technicians, Technical Team Leaders, and Project Managers.

Work collaboratively with the broader technical team to ensure smooth project execution and customer satisfaction.

Compliance & Safety
-
Adhere to all SHER requirements, ensuring safe working practices and professional appearance on site.

Follow all Group Policies, Standards, Procedures, and Guidelines (PSPGs)

Assist in ensuring installation timelines and standards are met to deliver within the quoted project timeframe.
Your Expertise:
-
At least 2 years of function‑related technical experience within the relevant discipline (CCTV, Access Control, Time & Attendance, Fire Systems, or related electronic security fields).

Demonstrated experience in hardware and software installation, commissioning, and basic fault‑finding.
-
Practical exposure to customer‑site work, including adherence to safety, compliance, and documentation standards.
-
Experience working as part of a technical field team (Technician + Assistant Technician) is advantageous.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent College Diploma

PSIRA Certification (appropriate grade for the role)

Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant technical courses and practical experience

CCTV Systems (installation, configuration, fault‑finding)

Access Control Systems (hardware, controllers, readers, software)
-
Fire Systems / SAQCC Certification
-
Time & Attendance Systems
-
Cabling Competency (RS485, RS422, RS232, Wiegand, OSDP, UTP, fibre, coax, terminations, standards)
