DIESEL MECHANIC / MECHANIC
(AQUNION BUFFELJAGS FARM, WESTERN CAPE)
Aqunion is a dynamic, growing company that farms South African abalone for the Asian market. The company currently has three farms and a processing facility in the Overberg Region. We have an exciting opportunity available for a Mechanic in the engineering department. This position will be based at our Buffeljags Farm, with preference given to candidates residing in or around the Gansbaai area.
Primary purpose of position: To ensure the effective maintenance, repair, and safe operation of all farm equipment, vehicles, and tools, supporting smooth farm operations through timely checks, recordkeeping, and cost-efficient practices.
Key Performance Areas:
● Undertake day to day maintenance and repair work as well as advanced repairs as required.
● Handle and operate all workshop and farm tools in a safe and responsible manner.
● Ensure that all tools and equipment are accounted for.
● Have good knowledge of all equipment and vehicles you work with.
● Complete all record keeping etc. for all work carried out.
● Report all damage/accidents, vandalism, theft or breakdowns that occur.
● Carry out weekend duties when required.
● Ensure that best prices are obtained for any spares and work carried out.
● Ensure that the workshop is always clean and safe.
● Occasionally assist with other aspects of the farm operations.
● Ensure that all checks are carried out & recorded in accordance with the checklists.
● Report on all issues for recordkeeping.
● Basic daily checks must be completed before 8 am to prevent delays in the farm operation.
Minimum Requirements:
● A minimum of 3 years’ technical/maintenance experience
● Good written and oral communication skills with fluency in English
● Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or an equivalent qualification in mechanical studies
● A valid Driver’s License (C1 or above would be an advantage)
● You must be physically fit and willing to work outdoors
● Must be able to do duty on a rotational basis
● Some leadership command and the ability to resolve personnel related queries.
