Full Job Description

Position Purpose:

The boilermaker tradesman is responsible for fabrication duties in the manufacturing process and uses technical drawings and various tools to fabricate to the required standard.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluating all engineering drawings and ensuring implementation according to fabrication specifications.
Analyzing diagrams and specification and cut all metal accordingly with the help of fabrication equipment.
Performing all fabrications and supporting tasks to the required fabrication tolerances.
Cutting, bending and shaping material as per the product requirements.
Locating and marking bending and cutting lines onto the work piece.
Marking off, drilling and punching holes.
Setting up and operating fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses.
Preparing material for welding by means of grinding, cutting and assembling.
Distinguishing between the various types of material in fabrication in preparation for the job.
Fabricating and tack welding components in preparation for welding.
Evaluating fabrication and adding stiffness for welding.
Performing work with the help of various hand and power tools.
Straightening parts and components after welding.
Removing of tack marks from components.
Using the grinder to remove slack and bevels from the welded work piece.
Completion and signing of the inspection report.
Ensuring that the work piece is welded strong enough prior to lifting it.
Using cutting torches and quick cutters correctly and in a safe manner.
Levelling jig tables and work pieces.
Evaluating finished products and perform quality checks on products.
Verifying the conformance of the work piece to specifications, using a range of measuring instruments.
Reporting any variances or defects by means of the quality management systems.
Performing modification and repair work if required.
Inspecting cutting torches, gauges, fittings and hoses for leaks.
Ensuring that the required Housekeeping and Health and Safety requirements are met.
You will be required to perform any additional and lawful duties that might not be listed in the job description, but which falls within your grade or grades below as and when required.
Ensuring compliance to QMS standards.

Qualifications:

The candidate must be a qualified Red Seal Boilermaker.

Experience:

At least five years’ experience in a medium to heavy fabrication environment.
Experience in the manufacturing of vibrating and crushing machines advantageous.

Character:

Attention to detail and accuracy in task execution.

Other:

The ability to read and interpret drawings.
The ability to use a variety of measuring instruments.
Proven track record in CO₂, Stick Welding and a Plasma Torch.
Knowledge of dumpier Levels.
Willingness to work shifts.

Application Question(s):

The candidate must have a Red Seal Boilermaker Certificate.
The candidate must have at least five years experience in a medium to heavy fabrication environment.
The candidate must have experience in the manufacturing of vibrating and crushing machines.
The candidate must be able to read and interpret technical drawings and the ability to use a variety of measuring instruments.
