Full Job Description

A well established casket, furniture and wood product manufacturing company seeks to employ an experienced , qualified Wood Machine Moulder & Setter;

Duties and responsibilities include but is not limited to;

Sets up, adjusts, and runs woodworking moulding machines to shape raw lumber into decorative or structural furniture components.
Machine Setup: Select and install proper cutterheads, moulding knives, blades, and cams according to profile blueprints or work orders.
Calibration: Adjust machine tables, feed speeds, guides, and spindle alignment for precise depth and clean cuts.
Test Runs: Run sample timber pieces and check dimensions with calipers or gauges to verify accuracy before mass production.
Operation: Feed wood product/timber through the moulding machine, monitor continuous operation, and watch for jams or feed errors.
Quality Control: Inspect finished wooden mouldings for surface smoothness, correct angles, and defects.
Maintenance: Change worn knives or belts, clean dust collection ports, and perform daily basic equipment upkeep
Select the right wood for the job
Compile, read and understand cutting list for the job according to the production plan
Take accurate measurements
Check that the measurements are correct before production
Saws wood for production
Meet the clients requirements and product specification
Keeps up to date records of production daily
Set up, programs, operate, tend computerized or manual woodworking machines, such as drill presses, lathes, shapers, routers, sanders, planers, or wood-nailing machines.
Examine finished workpieces for smoothness, shape, angle, depth-of-cut, or conformity to specifications and verify dimensions, visually and using hands, rules, calipers, templates, or gauges.
Start machines, adjust controls, and make trial cuts to ensure that machinery is operating properly.
Monitor operation of machines and make adjustments to correct problems and ensure conformance to specifications.
Examine raw product/timber for defects and to ensure conformity to size and other specification standards.
Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Performing general physical activities includes doing activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
Operate woodworking equipment
Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
Conduct test runs of production equipment.
Monitor equipment operation to ensure that products are not flawed.
Set equipment controls to meet cutting specifications.
Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
Troubleshooting — Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
Inspect and measure workpieces to mark for cuts and to verify the accuracy of cuts, using rulers, squares, or caliper rules.
Adjust saw blades, using wrenches and rulers, or by turning handwheels or pressing pedals, levers, or panel buttons.
Mount and bolt sawing blades or attachments to machine shafts.
Set up, operate, or tend saws or machines that cut or trim wood to specified dimensions, such as circular saws, band saws, multiple-blade sawing machines, scroll saws, ripsaws etc
Mount attachments or tools onto production equipment.
Set equipment guides, stops, spacers, or other fixtures
Craft custom furniture pieces based on client specifications
Select and prepare materials such as wood, metal, and fabric
Utilize hand tools and power tools to cut, sand, and assemble furniture
Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Finish furniture with stains, paints, and varnishes
Collaborate with designers and clients to develop design ideas
Ensure quality control standards are met throughout the production process
Maintain and organize tools and workspace
Source and order materials as needed through the procurement department
Keep up-to-date with industry trends and technique
Reviewing drawings and choosing appropriate materials, such as the correct type of timber, veneer or synthetic board
Using computer-aided design programs to perform calculations and refine drawings
Cutting and joining wood to make parts according to the plans
Assembling cabinets and furniture from shaped components
Making cabinetry and furniture pieces according to specifications, including hinges, locks and handles
Refining or enhancing existing furniture by adding intricate details.
Review drawings and blueprints to determine which materials and installation approach to use
Use power tools to cut and prepare timber and assemble wood to form structures as required
Create furniture framework, skirting boards and other
Assemble and install prefabricated furniture structures
Install fixtures and hardware such as handles, locks, insulating material or underlay
Selecting the appropriate materials, fittings, and tools for each task.
Cutting resources down to size, as needed.
Planning an effective approach to work to ensure that each project is completed on time.
Creating standard and custom components of cabinets.
Gathering the elements of each cabinet and assembling the final product.
Applying sealant, varnish, and paint to cabinets, if required.
Inspecting each completed item to ensure that it has been constructed accurately, and that the necessary finishes have been applied.
Wearing the requisite uniform and taking necessary precautions to remain safe.
Measure, cut, and shape wood and other materials
Assemble and install wooden structures and fixtures
Operate woodworking machinery and hand tools safely
Maintain a clean and organized workspace
Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards
Collaborate with team members and clients
Manage materials and supplies for production in department
Design and construct custom furniture pieces.
Use hand tools, power tools, and machinery safely and effectively.
Collaborate with clients and designers to meet specifications.
Ensure all products meet quality and safety standards.
Stay updated on new materials, tools, and techniques.
Install structures and fixtures such as , cabinets, and molding
Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures
Follow all safety precautions with regards to machinery.
Ensuring necessary personal protective equipment is used at all times.
Working in other departments when required
To ensure any job function is carried out to required specification.
Working towards required production targets.
Compliance and adherence to health and safety rules.
To ensure housekeeping is of an acceptable standard.
Ensuring daily maintenance of all tools, equipment and machinery.
Making sure that all work is carried out to required quality standards & specification.
Adhering to all company policies & procedures at all times.

Educational and job requirements include but is not limited to;

Grade 12
2 – 4 Years’ experience in the field of work within a wood and furniture manufacturing industry.
Qualification or certification in the relevant field will be advantageous.
Good arithmetic skills.
Excellent teamwork and customer service skills
Ability to meet tight deadlines .
Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques and joinery.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.
Attention to detail and high standards of craftsmanship.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of furniture finishing and upholstery is a plus.
Commitment to workplace safety.
Ability to work independently and in a team
Problem-solving skills
Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to job sites
Basic math skills for measuring and estimating
