Purpose of the Position
The Foundation Phase Teacher is responsible for facilitating learning, monitoring academic progress, supporting character development, and maintaining a structured, Christ-centered classroom environment using the ACE curriculum. The teacher must guide learners through their PACEs, ensure mastery of concepts, and provide individual academic and emotional support.
Key Responsibilities1. Academic Facilitation
The teacher must:
- Facilitate learning according to the ACE curriculum and school policies.
- Assist learners in setting daily academic goals.
- Monitor learners’ progress in PACEs and ensure work is completed neatly and accurately.
- Ensure learners understand instructions before completing activities.
- Provide individual support where learners struggle with concepts.
- Check that scoring procedures are followed correctly.
- Ensure corrections are completed before learners continue.
- Prepare learners for Self Tests, Checkups, and PACE Tests.
- Maintain high academic standards and encourage mastery learning.
2. Classroom Management
The teacher must:
- Maintain a calm, structured, and disciplined learning environment.
- Ensure learners follow classroom procedures and routines.
- Monitor learner behaviour and apply the school’s discipline policy fairly.
- Encourage responsibility, independence, respect, and good work habits.
- Supervise learners during class time, breaks, assemblies, and other school activities when required.
- Keep the classroom neat, organised, and visually appropriate for Foundation Phase learners.
3. ACE Procedures and Administration
The teacher must:
- Follow all ACE Learning Centre procedures.
- Ensure learners use goal cards correctly.
- Monitor PACE progress, scoring, corrections, and testing procedures.
- Keep accurate academic records.
- File completed work and tests according to school requirements.
- Record marks, merits, demerits, attendance, and other required data.
- Prepare progress reports when required.
- Communicate academic concerns to management timeously.
4. Learner Support and Development
The teacher must:
- Support learners academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
- Identify learning barriers or behavioral concerns early.
- Provide additional explanation and intervention where needed.
- Encourage learners to develop confidence, discipline, and independence.
- Promote Christian values, Biblical character traits, and positive conduct.
- Communicate concerns about learner progress or wellbeing to the relevant staff member or parent when required.
5. Parent Communication
The teacher must:
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding learner progress and behaviour.
- Attend parent meetings when required.
- Provide clear feedback on academic performance, work habits, and areas for improvement.
- Escalate serious academic, behavioural, or emotional concerns to management before formal parent communication where required.
6. Planning and Preparation
The teacher must:
- Prepare the classroom and resources before lessons begin.
- Plan daily routines, devotion time, reading support, phonics, numeracy reinforcement, and enrichment activities.
- Ensure Foundation Phase learners receive age-appropriate guidance and supervision.
- Prepare additional support activities where necessary.
- Participate in school planning, meetings, training, and professional development.
7. Professional Conduct
The teacher must:
- Uphold the Christian ethos and values of the school.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding learners, parents, and staff matters.
- Dress and behave professionally.
- Follow all school policies, procedures, and management instructions.
- Work respectfully with colleagues, learners, parents, and leadership.
- Be punctual, reliable, organized, and committed to excellence.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant teaching qualification, preferably Foundation Phase.
- Experience in Foundation Phase teaching.
- Knowledge of or willingness to be trained in the ACE curriculum.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Good communication and administrative skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Commitment to Christian education and Biblical values.
- SACE registration, where applicable.

Working Conditions
The teacher will work during normal school hours and may be required to attend staff meetings, parent meetings, training sessions, school events, devotions, assemblies, and extracurricular activities as required by management.
