Company Description
Our client, a specialized HVAC company is looking for a qualified HVAC and Refrigeration Technician. The company provides installation, maintenance, repairs and technical support for air-conditioning, heating, heat-pump and climate-control systems, serving residential, commercial and industrial clients.
About the Role
The qualified HVAC and refrigeration technician will carry the hands-on delivery of installation, planned maintenance and breakdown work on commercial and industrial sites across Gauteng, with residential work as it arises. The successful candidate reports to the Technical Manager, works unsupervised on site, represents Nu Air in front of clients and consultants, and signs off their own gas work. It is a permanent, full-time appointment with a three-month probation period.
Key Responsibilities
● Install split, multi-split, VRF/VRV, ducted and cassette systems, heat pumps, cold rooms and refrigeration plant — pipework, insulation, drainage, ducting, pressure testing, evacuation, charging and commissioning.
● Carry out contracted preventative maintenance and once-off services, reporting defects with a recommendation and a rough cost.
● Attend breakdown callouts, diagnose electrical, mechanical and refrigeration faults, and repair or quote accurately. Work an after-hours standby rotation with the technical team.
● Work to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Construction Regulations and SANS 10147, comply with each client’s site safety and permit requirements, and account correctly for refrigerant and gas certification.
● Run every job through EMS, job status, electronic job card, safety checklist, photographs, materials and hours, and the client’s signature on completion. A job that is not closed out correctly cannot be invoiced.
● Care for the company vehicle, tools and instruments, manage van stock honestly, leave every site clean, and deal with clients courteously and straight.
Minimum Requirements
Trade qualification - Completed trade test as a Refrigeration Mechanic (Commercial) or equivalent QCTO / NAMB recognised trade certificate.
Gas registration - Valid SAQCC Gas practitioner registration (refrigeration), available for verification.
Experience - Three years or more post-qualification on commercial or industrial HVAC and refrigeration plant.
Technical knowledge - Brazing and pipework, pressure testing, evacuation and charging, single- and three-phase fault-finding, control wiring, and reading layout and schematic drawings.
Driver’s license - Valid, unendorsed Code B or higher. Drives a company vehicle on duty; own transport to and from work.
Education - Grade 12 or an N2–N4 refrigeration, electrical or mechanical qualification.
Other - Fit for a medical certificate including work at height; competent on a smartphone or tablet for job cards; fluent in English; SA citizen or valid work permit; clear criminal record.
Advantageous: VRF/VRV commissioning on a major brand (Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Samsung, LG or Midea); chillers, air-handling units or kitchen extraction; a wireman’s licence or electrical qualification; working at height, first aid or site safety training already in place; ServiceM8 experience; Afrikaans in addition to English.
