Full Job Description

We are seeking a Junior Commis Chef to support the kitchen team in delivering high-quality food across all business channels.

The successful candidate will assist senior chefs with basic food preparation and help ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the kitchen. The role requires a strong focus on hygiene, efficiency, and consistency across retail and wholesale production, banqueting and events, Halaal catering, and restaurant operations.

Education and Experience

Grade 12 (Matric)
Certificate in Culinary Arts or a related qualification
1–3 years’ experience as a Commis Chef or in a similar role
Experience in food handling and kitchen environments.
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
Good organisational and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure workstations are clean and properly sanitised at all times.
Accurately measure and prepare ingredients as required by the Chef.
Assist with food preparation and cooking as instructed.
Prepare dishes according to the Chef’s direction and company standards.
Receive deliveries of raw ingredients, check quality, and report or discard spoiled items.
Ensure refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms are clean and well-maintained.
Assist with stock taking and inventory control.
