Syntech is looking for an Information Systems Lead to take ownership of our IS function and build it into a capability that keeps pace with the company. This is a hands-on, player-coach role. Today you will personally hold the most business-critical systems across automation, ERP integration, BI and web. Over time you will design and build the team and partner network around them — and grow into the Head of Information Systems role as you do.
You will report to executive management and work across every department — sales, finance, operations and marketing. The function is currently held by a single outgoing specialist, so you will start as the sole IS practitioner. A core part of the mandate is to change that: to engineer out the single-point-of-failure risk by building the right mix of hires and specialist partners around the estate.
This is a rare opportunity to define a function rather than inherit one, with a clear, earned path to Head of Information Systems as the team and capability are established.
- Hands-on Fortra Automate (AML) experience — or equivalent enterprise RPA (UiPath, Blue Prism) with willingness to cross-train onto Fortra
- Strong SQL Server skills — stored procedures, integration debugging, schema ownership
- ERP integration architecture experience — ideally Fincon; any major ERP considered
- Experience operating as the lead IS person in a commercial environment — setting priorities, managing risk, and making decisions independently
- Proven ability to build and lead a small technical team, or clear and demonstrable readiness to step into it — a genuine selection criterion, secondary to the technical bar
- BI tooling experience — ClicData, Power BI or equivalent
- Front-end web skills — HTML, CSS, basic JavaScript; comfortable with XML/JSON data feeds
- com and n8n (or similar automation platform) proficiency
- Demonstrable AI/LLM experience advantageous — RAG pipelines, local LLM serving, or agentic workflows
- Comfortable taking strategic direction from executive management and translating it into technical execution without close specification
RPA & Automation (Tier 1 — business-critical)
- Full ownership of the Fortra Automate (AML) estate — the Dispatch System, Amazon PO automation, and the marketing expense provision workflow
- Debug, extend, recover and build AML workflows; maintain runbooks and failure-recovery procedures
- Own the Fincon ERP integration architecture — CRO-to-Monday, debtor sync, stock sync, order status flows, and the Reseller API programme
Build & Lead the IS Function (a defining part of this role)
- Assess current coverage and design the IS team structure the business needs
- Make and motivate the build-vs-partner-vs-pause decisions across the estate — the Fortra specialism, the Reseller API and integration architecture, and the AI programme — with executive sign-off
- Recruit, mentor and lead the team as it grows, starting with a Systems & Support Specialist
- Deliberately remove single-point-of-failure risk through documentation, runbooks and cross-cover
- Collaborate with the separate IT Support function where systems and infrastructure meet
BI & Reporting
- Maintain and develop ClicData dashboards — sales campaigns, order lifecycle, and leadership reporting
- Keep data pipelines accurate and timely; respond to reporting needs across the business
Website & Integrations
- Own the Syntech website — landing pages, banners, product feeds and customer dashboards
- Maintain the Fincon data syncs that power the site; coordinate with external developers where needed
- Operate and extend Monday.com boards and automations, and n8n integrations including Takealot Dropship and other marketplace order flows
AI (differentiator)
- Help shape Syntech's approach to AI — identifying practical use cases across sales, operations and finance, and recommending whether to build, partner or pause
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with AI tooling is advantageous; production AI deployment experience is a strong plus
General IS
- Senior technical escalation point for IS matters (excluding networks and Exchange, handled by the IT Support function)
- Own the IS documentation estate — credentials registers, runbooks, and system inventory
- API testing using Postman; vendor liaison and specialist-partner management
