Fibre Installation TechnicianJob Summary
We are looking for a motivated and reliable Fibre Installation Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fibre optic internet services at residential and business customer premises while delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Install Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) and Fibre-to-the-Business (FTTB) services.
- Install and terminate fibre optic cables.
- Splice, test, and troubleshoot fibre optic networks.
- Install ONTs, Wi-Fi routers, and related customer equipment.
- Perform cable routing, trenching, and conduit installations where required.
- Test fibre links using appropriate testing equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve connectivity and network issues.
- Complete installation reports, job cards, and required documentation.
- Ensure all work complies with company quality and safety standards.
- Provide professional customer service and explain equipment operation to customers.
- Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid South African driver's licence (Code B).
- Previous experience with FTTH/FTTB installations.
- Knowledge of fibre optic cable handling and installation practices.
- Ability to use fibre testing equipment and basic networking tools.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, routers, and Wi-Fi.
- Comfortable working at heights and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willing to work overtime and participate in an after-hours standby rotation when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fibre optic splicing certification or relevant training.
- Experience with fusion splicing and OTDR testing.
- Working at Heights certification.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with MikroTik, Ubiquiti, Reyee, or similar networking equipment.
