Job Title: Maintenance Planner
Grade: P09
Purpose of the Role:
To implement, co-ordinate and maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) on the plant, and lead maintenance planning and scheduling of activities by applying maintenance planning processes.
Key Deliverables
- PLANNING:
- Provide input during drafting of plans and procedures specific to department.
- Implement operational plans.
- Review existing procedures and initiate/draft change requests for higher approval.
- Ensure team compliance with legislation, policies and procedures.
- Inform manager of internal and external issues that may affect the team’s ability to deliver on mandates
- ASSET CARE:
- Ensure assets and resources are available to meet agreed service delivery objectives.
- Adhere to policies and procedures related to assets and resources in area of responsibility.
- Determine resource needs of the team and give input into required changes in resources to enable achieving of objectives.
- Check service providers performance according to scope of work/Service Level Agreements
- Maintain, monitor and order stock (raw materials, inventory items, assets and personal protection equipment) as required by operations.
- Monitor areas of responsibility for sustainable and cost-effective service/operation, according to the departmental plan.
- Monitor, safeguard and maintain all movable and fixed assets in area of responsibility.
- Identify and supervise corrective action to eliminate all forms of waste.
- MAINTENANCE PLANNING:
- Develop and control preventive maintenance programme in the section.
- Develop and update RCM schedules.
- Coach engineering team on engineering standards and asset care processes.
- Review emergency works orders and create follow-on orders.
- Plans for major breakdown repairs.
- Review and trend breakdowns repaired.
- Create a draft Job Change Plan.
- Participate in the spares criticality assessment process and identify and action changes to the spares requirements.
- Participate in reviewing section programme and aligning maintenance requirements.
- Review spares required and equipment availability.
- Run the pre- and post-Job Change/Maintenance Planning meeting.
- Create the Autonomous Operations (ATO) execution schedule.
- Assess and manage the corrective work arising on maintenance days in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Plan annual shutdown for section.
- Plan machine audits to restore equipment to standard or specification requirements.
- Contribute to the selection of new plant and equipment or plant modifications.
- ASSET MANAGEMENT INTEGRITY AND USE OF AN COMPUTERISED MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:
- Analyze, trend and action production information.
- Manage issues emanating from system usage reports.
- Ensure adherence to asset management business processes.
- Support identification and corrective action to eliminate all forms of waste.
- Track and analyses maintenance planning KPI’s and take corrective action when required.
- FINANCIAL CONTROL
- Provide input into the departmental budget
- Manage and control the departmental fixed and variable costs
- SUPERVISION:
- Comply with and implement all appropriate Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Recommend leave.
- Evaluate individual and team performance, address deviations from agreed performance indicators.
- Provide informal coaching to address needs identified.
- Allocate operations tasks to meet objectives daily/weekly.
- Resolve conflict situations appropriately.
- STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS:
- Communicate with all relevant departments on issues of the area you are supporting.
- Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
- SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENTAL, QUALITY AND RISK MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
- Ensure Adherence to Health and Safety measures e.g., wearing safety and protective equipment and promoting safety awareness.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable ISO standards, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), policies, procedures and guidelines as well as all recommended safety procedures, standards and practices to ensure efficient and uninterrupted operations.

- Key Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System advantageous (JDE/Pragma/SAP PM)
- Computer knowledge with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Package
- Basic understanding of reliability engineering and asset management
- Exposure and/ understanding of project management methodologies

Qualification & Experience Required
- Degree/B-Tech in (Mechanical or Electrical NQF 7) with 3 to 5 years working experience on Maintenance Management and Maintenance Planning within the Manufacturing, FMCG or Chemical/petroleum industry
- N.Dip/N6 N Diploma (Mechanical/Electrical/Millwright) with 5 to 10 years working experience on Maintenance Management and Maintenance Planning within the Manufacturing, FMCG or Chemical/petroleum industry
