We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Registered Nurse – Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) to join our team at Heritage Manor, Somerset West.
This specialised role will provide infection prevention and control guidance and support across our healthcare facilities, assisting clinical teams with IPC decision-making, compliance, risk management, and best-practice implementation.
Infection Prevention and Control is a highly specialised field requiring advanced clinical knowledge, sound judgement, and practical experience in managing infection risks within healthcare environments.
The successful candidate will serve as a key resource to Faircape Health's clinical teams, supporting facilities with IPC-related decision-making, investigations, training, audits, policy implementation, and regulatory compliance.
Working closely with senior clinical leadership, multidisciplinary teams, and external healthcare professionals, including microbiologists where required, you will help ensure the highest standards of resident safety and infection prevention across all Faircape Health facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Tasks:

Implement, review, and update individualized care plans to reflect residents’ evolving medical and personal needs.

Monitor staff compliance with care plans, clinical standards, and facility protocols.

Conduct high-risk assessments and accurately document all essential clinical information.
-
Uphold best-practice clinical methods in all tasks performed within the facility.
-
Ensure safe, compliant administration of medication (self and nursing staff), including proper storage and management of blister packs.

Implement and maintain infection control protocols when required.

Manage clinical stock, including monitoring par levels and ensuring timely restocking of supply cupboards.
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC):
-
Lead and support Infection Prevention and Control initiatives across Faircape Health facilities.

Conduct infection risk assessments, surveillance, monitoring, and reporting.

Provide expert guidance on infection prevention strategies, outbreak management, isolation procedures, and containment measures.

Participate in and support IPC committees and clinical governance initiatives.

Develop, review, and implement IPC policies, protocols, and best-practice standards.

Conduct audits and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in infection control practices.

Facilitate IPC-related training and education for nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams.

Liaise with healthcare professionals, laboratories, and microbiologists where required to support clinical decision-making.

Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards relating to infection prevention and control.
Emergency and Incident Management:

Follow established policies in the event of emergencies, including calling Emergency Services as needed for the Healthcare Facility or Village.

Act according to patients' living wills or advanced directives during emergencies or resuscitation efforts.

Ensure the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and families are promptly informed of any incidents or resident deaths.
Requirements:
Qualifications:

SANC registered as a Registered Nurse.
-
Up-to-date Basic Life Support certification is advantageous.
Experience and Knowledge:

Proven experience as a Registered Nurse
-
Demonstrated experience in Infection Prevention and Control within a healthcare environment is essential.

Formal IPC training, certification, or relevant qualifications will be highly advantageous.

Knowledge of Dementia care, Frail care, and Palliative care is advantageous.

Proficiency in organizing and delivering training sessions for staff development.

Experience in scheduling and managing staff shifts.

Working Hours:

Normal working days are Monday to Sunday.

You will be required to work 16.25 shifts per month.
