Full Job Description

GIBB Power focusses on supporting energy projects and offering solutions to the challenges of energy transition in Africa.

As part of the GIBB group of companies, with shareholding by EDF, GIBB Power specialises in several areas of engineering including thermal and hydraulic engineering, electricity transmission and distribution networks, and solar and wind power. These support the rapid development of these energies throughout Africa.

This Sector is looking for another talented professional to complement their team, in the form of a Civil Supervisor.

The below listed responsibilities and requirements will be assessed during the interview stages and will further be confirmed with the relevant professional references that you currently are or have reported to in your previously two positions.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental: Guide and support the contractors to ensure compliance with the project EMPr’s
Health & Safety: Provide active and demonstrable support to the HSE Officers to enforce the HSE Plan on site
Contractor management on civil works: Ensure BOP contractors comply with its construction contract
Document Management: Assist the Document Controller with site-generated project documentation
Planning: Support project Planner and Contract Manager Surveyor with progress measurements
Reporting: Support internal team with reporting and preparation of external reporting to the Client
Quality: Support the Quality Manager during the quality process
Eskom Self-Build Works: Attend monthly Eskom meeting for Self-Build Works coordination and progress
Commercial: Assist Construction Site Manager and Commercial team with supporting document compilation for Project milestone payment claims
Liaising: Proactive interaction with internal and external stakeholders during the construction of all Civil Works

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Tertiary qualification in an Engineering or Construction field (BSc, BTech or equivalent as a minimum).

Experience

Minimum 10 years' experience as a Civil Construction Supervisor, Civil Site Engineer or similar role.
Minimum 5 years' experience on mining, industrial, bulk materials handling, infrastructure or heavy civil construction projects.
Experience working within operating mining, petrochemical or industrial facilities will be advantageous.
Experience working under EPCM project execution models will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

The Civil Supervisor will be responsible for the successful execution and supervision of all civil construction activities associated with the Coal Offloading Project.
The Civil Supervisor will form part of the site construction management team and will be responsible for overseeing contractor performance, monitoring compliance with approved designs and specifications, ensuring adherence to project quality and safety requirements, and supporting the successful delivery of the project.
The role will require close interaction with Sasol Mining representatives, contractors, engineering disciplines and the GIBB project team to ensure the project is executed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project objectives.
Exposure to multiple project execution environments and brownfields construction projects will be an added advantage.

Person Requirement

Core Requirements

An excellent working knowledge of MS Office
Working knowledge of construction management systems and reporting tools.
Working knowledge of construction management systems and reporting tools.
Willingness to be site-based for the duration of the project.
Strong technical understanding of civil construction methodologies.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and construction schedules.
Fluent in spoken and written English.
Valid driver's licence.
Medically fit for work on mining and industrial construction sites.
