Level 1: Maintenance Planner Position Summary
The Level 1 Maintenance Planner is an entry-level maintenance planning professional responsible for supporting maintenance planning, scheduling, work management, and CMMS administration activities within client environments.
The role focuses on ensuring that maintenance work is properly planned, documented, resourced, and controlled to support equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and operational performance.
The Maintenance Planner is expected to work under the guidance of senior planners, maintenance managers, or DISA leadership while developing planning and reliability competencies.
Minimum RequirementsQualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Relevant National Qualification (NQF Level 4 or higher) in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Process Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year experience in maintenance planning, maintenance administration, maintenance execution, production support, or related technical environment.
- Exposure to maintenance systems and work management processes will be advantageous.
Technical Knowledge
- Basic understanding of industrial equipment and maintenance practices.
- Basic understanding of preventive maintenance principles.
- Working knowledge of dMS, SAP PM, Maximo, Pragma, or similar CMMS systems will be advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to read and interpret basic technical documentation.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Own reliable and roadworthy vehicle is mandatory.
- Willingness to travel between client sites when required.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities Maintenance Planning Support
- Assist with day-to-day maintenance planning activities.
- Review and process maintenance work requests.
- Create and maintain maintenance work orders.
- Print and issue work orders as required.
- Capture completed work orders and update maintenance records.
- Support the planning and scheduling of maintenance activities.
Preventive Maintenance Administration
- Support the creation and maintenance of preventive maintenance plans.
- Assist with updating task lists and maintenance frequencies.
- Monitor PM compliance and escalate deviations.
Materials and Spare Parts Management
- Create material reservations.
- Assist with purchase requisitions and purchase order requests.
- Verify availability of spare parts before scheduling work.
- Support critical spare identification and management activities.
Scheduling Support
- Assist supervisors and maintenance teams with weekly scheduling activities.
- Ensure planned work orders are issued within required timeframes.
- Track schedule execution and completion.
CMMS Administration
- Maintain accurate records within the CMMS.
- Ensure work orders, equipment information, and maintenance records are updated.
- Support asset verification and data quality initiatives.
Backlog Management
- Maintain backlog records.
- Monitor backlog age and priorities.
- Assist in identifying overdue work orders requiring attention.
Reporting
- Generate routine maintenance reports.
- Track maintenance KPIs.
- Support management reporting requirements.
DISA Expectations
The Maintenance Planner is expected to:
- Represent DISA professionally at all times.
- Attend all required governance meetings, DPC reviews, coaching sessions, and training programmes.
- Submit timesheets and reports on time.
- Escalate risks, delays, and client concerns promptly.
- Maintain compliance with client and DISA procedures.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Maintain a high standard of communication and stakeholder engagement.
