Working under the technical direction of the Lead Underwriter and Actuary / Senior Actuarial Analyst, you will play a key role in building and maintaining data files, running pricing models, and producing portfolio monitoring outputs that directly inform business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Actuarial Analysis & Pricing Support
- Execute technical pricing analyses and relativity reviews under the direction of the Lead Underwriter and Actuary / Senior Actuarial Analyst.
- Maintain and update pricing models, ensuring outputs are documented, reconciled, and delivered to agreed timelines.
- Conduct competitor monitoring and benchmarking analyses to support pricing strategy.
- Support pricing implementation and testing for direct and partner portfolios.
- Assist in the preparation and documentation of monthly valuations and actuarial data files.
Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting
- Build and maintain standardised portfolio monitoring reports and dashboards as directed.
- Produce TMD monitoring metrics and portfolio performance reports on a regular basis to support the Senior Product Specialist in conducting TMD reviews and managing distribution compliance obligations.
- Support the development of detailed portfolio monitoring at rating factor level and mix change detection analyses.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting exercises for portfolio performance.
- Ensure data files for analysis are accurately prepared, reconciled, and documented.
Data & Analytics
- Collaborate with data teams to prepare and maintain actuarial datasets for modelling and monitoring.
- Ensure data is automated, reconciled, and meets the standards required by the Appointed Actuary and the broader underwriting team.
- Apply and adopt actuarial methodologies and techniques shared by the Actuary / Senior Actuarial Analyst, contributing to the scaling of best-practice analytics across Pacific.
- Identify and flag data quality issues or anomalies to the Actuary / Senior Actuarial Analyst or Lead Underwriter.
Relationship & Communication
- Maintain regular communication with the Lead Underwriter and Actuary / Senior Actuarial Analyst to ensure alignment on priorities and delivery.
- Document analytical outputs clearly to enable review and sign-off by senior team members.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of analytical processes and tools.
Where will you work?
This role is based in George, South Africa. We strongly prefer candidates who are able to work on-site at our George office, however we are open to considering exceptional remote candidates within South Africa. Given that this role supports an Australian business, working hours will be semi-aligned to the Australian time zone, and candidates should be comfortable with an early start to the working day to ensure sufficient overlap with the Australian team.
Why Join Us?
This is an excellent opportunity for an analytically driven professional to build a meaningful career in actuarial science within a growing, internationally backed insurance business. You will work alongside experienced actuarial and underwriting professionals, gain hands-on exposure to a diverse range of general insurance product lines, and contribute to analytical work that directly shapes Pacific's pricing and portfolio strategy. If you are looking for a role where your technical skills will be put to real use, in a team that values precision, continuous learning, and collaborative problem-solving — we would love to hear from you.
